A friend in India wants to upgrade from Sony-H2 to a digital SLR, and asked me for advise. What brands are popular (Canon/Nikon/Sony/etc) and easy to service in Mumbai India? Anyone in India that can respond?

You might consider talking to  bnilesh, if he doesn't wander in here on his own. He doesn't live in Mumbai, but he had the same camera, and is an active member.
I'd venture to guess support in a city as large as Mumbai would be fine for any of the manufacturers, though. |

| Now days all camera models are very easily available in India.It is advisable to buy the camera from India only in that case u can avail 2 years warranty also. Most camera rates are at par with US or European rates. Rates of Nikon professional stuff are on higher side,otherwise semi pro stuff u can get at very good rate in india. |

| When I was in Mumbai my Canon broke. I was able to find authorized Canon Service Center and they were ready to fix my camera. I didn't actually have them fix it because I had US warranty which would not cover the repair out of US but it was nice to know that it was possible to find a repair shop without any issues. Not sure that it helps you but here are my 2 cents. |
