What you need to know...

From one lazy American to another...;-)

Labour (red corner) - left of centre - has been in government for 3 terms (since 1997)-strongest in urban areas and the North.

Conservative (aka Tory)(blue corner) - Right of centre. Strong in rural areas and the South-East and London.

Lib-Dem (yellow corner) - Straddles the centre, but many members/voters left leaning. Major difference with Labour is on defence - would abolish the UKs nuclear warhead Trident programme.

BNP - ultra far-right, ultra anti-immigration, repatriation of non-whites. Viewed by the majority as fairly repugnant, but has had increasing support in recent years.

UKIP - anti Europe. Again, marginal party.

Monstor Raving loony Party - adds a humorous flavour to the elections.

Police have been called to polling stations in Sheffield to move people on who've queued for hours to vote and not been able to. Former Hillsborough MP Helen Jackson says the situation is disgraceful and potentially leaves it open to legal challenge if results are close.

I bet my flatmate and girlfriend who study law will be digging the controversy about that one.

Only me and 2 others in my polling station at 11:30am. I was hoping for more of a turnout but looks like its not that high.
Will stay up for a while and see what is going on. Seems to be a few places were voters could not cast their vote - one place ran out of ballot papers! Sounds like a right cock-up!

Wait they have elections over there? I thought the American president decided who the lap dog would be? :P

It's a good thing Brown doesn't take part in challenges here. If last night was any indicator he would clearly DNMC!

Well, not quite the horrific Conservative majority many were predicting. Thank the gods. The terrible Lib Dem result was a surprise though. I quite like the hung parliament and it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. But really, i'm just really pleased that the Conservatives turned out to be a bit rubbish.

I once voted for Al "Grampa Munster" Lewis for Governor of The State of New York. Best vote I ever cast..., I think?

I suppose if I was voting in England, I'd be a Lib-Dem. Center always sounds reasonable.
