An hour left, and 478 entries now. Geeze, looks like I picked the wrong week to get all gung-ho about submitting to a challenge again. :P

I don't get it! If your going to bother with a hidden gem challenge, why not go all the way and allow photos taken form the past year, why can it only be 4 months???

Simple... Because that was already covered by Best of 2009... Duh :)

Oh, that makes sense... thx

Superbly welcome...

BTW: Grand response.. (no dissembling.. no argument.. just a very nice, "oh ok..."). You have no idea how cool I find that.

Does the entry have to be located in your DPC portfolio or can it be one of the hundreds of shots I've taken this year and left stored on my computer?

It can be anywhere you like, it does not have to have ever been on DPC.

This is an open challenge so non finacial members can enter. Non financial members do not have DPC portfolios. Therefore it is any photograph you have taken in time frame stated.

And how is one year any less arbitrary than 4 months?

Because in 4 months time we can have Hidden Gem II

If anyone is using Flickr, click on the Archives link (under your photostream) and display in calender or list view. Very quick way to brainstorm/browse for ideas. It definitely helped me think of a picture that I liked but never submitted. We all take millions of pictures and this was a quick way for me to find the one I would like to use.

Not to self - thouroughly read a challenge description before attempting to enter.

The last Hidden Gem challenge was for ANY previous photo. I dug in to the 2006 archives, edited and attempted to submit. Yeah, that didn't work. It's a shme, too. I would have scored much better with my 2006 image.

Bear, the challenge states to pick an image from your portfolio and edit it. Is that my DPC portfolio or Whatever I have shot within the dates stated?

Yes, I understand that. But I have a portfolio that's entirely separate from DPC, as do most of us. If they *MEANT* "Your DPC portfolio" I assume they'd have said that.

I've taken a lot of pictures over the last few years but I never considered it my portfolio. Thanks for letting me know that I have one :)

your picture/entry does not have to be in your DPC portfolio only (your portfolio is "your collection of files/pictures" it is not related to DPC), it could still be in your camera sitting on your shelf in the closet for that matter (as a matter of fact it is better that it is not on DPC, if it is you should hide it before the challenge starts)...it must be "your" picture, you must have an original and it must be taken between the dates of the challenge Jan 1, 2010 - May 4, 2010...it can come from any point and shoot...or DSL...but it must be digital. Pretty simple don't make it so complicated

Think it through, people...

The challenge was announced at midnight on the 5th, and the cutoff date for taking the picture is the 4th. Surely you don't think they are gonna require that images shot on the 4th were somehow presciently uploaded to portfolios before midnight that day?

Not even Langdon would be that devious...

You have to upload it from your computer for the challenge so unless there was some way that they insure it's already on DPC it won't make a difference I think.

Gerry, You seem pretty sure about this. I haven't seen that posted anywhere before now. I sent a request to SC about this very detail of the challenge. I haven't heard back yet.

Correct, only official challenges. You are also free to enter outtakes. The requirement is you can not use the same frame(s) you have already used for a DPC challenge.
