I just got a new computer... nothing fancy, but it does have 6GB RAM. My past computer was super bogged down and slow so I never got any games for it. I'm looking to get a game. It doesn't have to be brand new, just fun, and one that wouldn't be found on a system.
I was thinking Spore because the concept seemed cool when it came out, but reviews are pretty mixed. Either people love it or completely hate it. So I've leaned away from that. Perhaps Starcraft 2 when it comes out in June.

Anyhoo, suggestions?

I'm slowly working my way through Dragon Age Origins. Next in line is Bioshock 2, though I should probably finish the first Bioshock. My boyfriend plays a heck of a lot of Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Any particular style you're looking for?

at the risk of sounding like a huge nerd, i'm going to suggest world of warcraft. it's super fun/addictive and the requirements for a graphics card aren't really that intense. pick it up and we'll see ya in a few months/years ;)

oh! and Portal!!! I can't recommend that one enough. Portal is short, but awesome, and the second one is coming out soon.

Don't do it! It's taken me almost 10 years to ween myself off of MMO's. If you have a job, a girlfriend/wife, or a life... don't do it! MMO's are just a big time sink. You spend hours just walking around doing nothing. You spend hours reading the ignorant blabbler people spew into the chat channels. It'll make you stupid, don't do it!

Portal was fun. I get motion sick playing first person, but I kept playing because it was so fun. Mmm, brain tinglies...

I like Orbiter: Space Flight Simulator

It an excellent FREE and open simulator. If you like space, this is the one to try!

Perhaps role playing, maybe rts. I like "sims"style games, although I don't particularly care for the sims.

Things like FPS I think I'd wait until I get a PS3.

I tend to play games about 5 years after they were popular. Last summer I went through the original God of War and COD3. Still fun games even though the graphics aren't up to 2010 standards.

I thought about it, but my wife would probably kill me, and I do get addicted to games easily. Right now I'm playing Evony, just because its something to do and for some reason I'm oddly addicted to it, even though its a pretty simple concept.

I had a quick go on WoW after my husband bought it 5 years ago & said I would probably enjoy it...

Still playing it although not as much as I used to! :D

Dragon Age: Origins is amazing. It is almost the same concept as playing an MMO but it won't suck your time. At least not permanently :).

I picked up Dragon Age: Origins about a week ago. I'm enjoying it. Only level 10 so far, but it's fun.

Online Games:

CABAL Online (I play this, alot, love it, it's free)
Lineage II (costs money, most addicting online game ever)

Standalone games:

Zeus: Master of Olympus (old city building game, very addicting)
Civilization IV (another newer city building game)
Sims 2 (or 3, I prefer 2, virtual life game)
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Battlefield 2: Bad Company

Emulations:
Project64 (for emulating old n64 games on PC)
- Zelda Ocarina of Time
- Star Fox 64

These are the PC game I play currently on my PC. Not sure of u like online games, but CABAL and Lineage II are the best, both with great graphics. CABAL is free, that's what I'm playing now. For stand-alones, I've listed the best, mwf2 is the best game ever. Zeus Master of Olympus I can get you for free is you pm me. Civ, 4 is great if you like civilization building, sims 2 is a game for single parents that don't have jobs, but still very fun. bad company is great.

As for the emulation, if you'v ever owned a game system, you can see why people want to play the games on their computers. Project 64 lets you play almost any n64 game on your computer for free. (I can tell you how to get games free too if you pm me. Wouldn't want to post links that encourage stealing on DPC)

Hope that helped!

Lol. Lineage.

Horrid community there. Kills the environment. I played before Lin2, Lin1. It was so pathetic. In 3 weeks, I had literally one of every single important item in the game and 1.5 million gold. I used to mud, but IMHO, Lineage is the picture book equivalent of an MORPG. And I only played 3 days a week. Yawn.

Nothing like going online and having people who have played the game for 6 months wandering around asking for handouts and freebies. Only people that you would ever see that weren't looking for handouts were bots.

No challenge.

I've found recently that standalones seem to offer better challenge. Although I tried out NFS Shift and found it to be another 'picture book for kids' type game. Beat it in 2 weeks. (it took me longer than it ought to have since I had midterms at the time).

Tough to find good games these days.

Mass Effect looks intriguing to me and I am hoping that Red Dead Redemption comes to the PC soon too.
