I won't nag you about not submitting to challenges ... but I will suggest the best way to get better is to shoot, get some critique, apply what you learn. Lather, rinse, repeat. You won't get better at shooting until you start shooting. You won't get better at photography until you see your photographs through others' eyes and learn from their reaction.

It takes a certain amount of courage and a little bit of a thick skin to play here. If you don't like the themes, just shoot the free studies for awhile. If you're mystified by advanced post processing, just shoot basic editing challenges for awhile.

Maybe ask another accomplished photog here to mentor you for awhile. Many of those you ask will agree to help.

I guarantee you'll improve.
