Talked to my wife and I was able to get a new toy today. I went into Inkleys and they had one D100 that they just got in today so I grabbed it up. I didn't have too much left for lens right now so I got a basic set, a 28-80 F3.5-5.6 and a 70-300 F4-5.6. I'm excited to go shooting now. My battery is charged up. I think I need a new memory card now because it cut picture no. in half. Any other D100 user have any tips for a new user?

Awesome!! I hope you get it tomorrow. I am going to go find stuff to shoot before I have to go to work. I hope it's not raining or snowing tomorrow. It's awesome. I sat and played with it for about an hour. There are tons of buttons and switches on it and I have no clue what some of them do. Sleeping tonight is gonna be like Christmas when I was a kid, Jeez and then Tomorrow night I won't be able to sleep cause LOTR- Two Towers comes out on Wednesday and I have tickets to that. That would be a photojournalism moment with every in line for an hour or so on opening day, I don't think they'd let me into the theater with my camera though. haha

TIP: Take only good pictures ; ) ...

Actually one thing that people who first make the move to a DSLR often run into is the difference in DOF. You will actually be able to get relatively shallow DOF now ! And so you may find that that less of the image field is in focus than you expected.

BTW, I think they would let you into the theater, esp if you had a camera bag and you discreetly slipped it in at the appropriate moments :).

Congrats, and good luck!

Drool, drool, drool. I might be getting a DSLR next summer. I stopped smoking Friday (15 year habit) and putting my smoking money aside. Good luck with your new camera.

Welcome to the D100 world! :)

One thing you might consider is changing the quality setting of your shots if you have a smaller CF card. I originally did all of my shooting at the largest setting, which allows for something like 74 images on a 128MB card.

I finally came to the conclusion that I wasn't really going to print billboards of each of these shots, so maybe I could step it down to the medium size and still be happy. The medium size allows for about 129 images on a 128MB card. I have found that to be quite sufficient for most things.

One thing you're going to love is the battery power! I shot the Steelers game last week, with about 400 shots... went to church to take another 80 of our childrens' plays, downloaded all of the images from the camera, and the battery still read "full!" Gotta love it!

I love the camera. The DOF is different on the SLR and shooting with a bigger lens, hand held, I can see the need for a tripod or a monopod. Here is a shot that I took this morning.

I seem to not be able to get them to work. Here is the link.

Tell you what... you can just HAVE my two cats if it will help. I was putting my shoes on this morning when I spotted a blob of grass on the living room carpet. I figured it somehow came off a pair of my shoes, so I reached down and grabbed it. It only took me about a second to realize what was really going on. Apparently our friendly little feline idiots decided that the only form of nutrition in the living room (God forbid they walk all the way to the kitchen) was the Christmas tree, which is artificial. Once they realized that this tree was not the best thing for their digestive systems, they hornked it up into a nice blob on the floor, disguised as grass. So, once again, the little bastards have gotten the best of me. I really do wish I was smarter than the freakin' cats.
