I like "gearfaggotry" the most - that's where I seem to be stuck! ;)

I think I've moved to found an old film camera phase :) At least I am enjoying my film camera better than anything right now.

I like my phone has a cam....I can't tell you how many people I know ( not in this group) who are using their phone cameras as if they are highly regarded cameras that produce great photos!! The real camera is cast aside, and they are using their phone cameras for important events, business, etc..

A couple of people I work with, have expressed doubts about my sanity for buying a DSLR. They have camera phones "that are every bit as good, and portable too!" They have proclaimed the demise of the camera, outside of phones, will occur in the next couple of years.

They also point to the purchasing of cameras and lenses, as something akin to a middle aged man buying a motorcycle. (Some sort of emotional effort to offset certain shortcomings.)

I have vigorously protested that I am not trying to offset shortcomings, or buy talent. But I'm a bit hampered here, as I own two motorcyles as well...

Aaah the HDR hole. Where everything must be shot three times and smooshed into a HDR image whether it needs it or not. When you have a shiny new hammer everything looks like a nail...

Offer to shoot the same subject side-by side. Make sure it's a low-light environment where shallow DoF is called for to blur an otherwise busy background. Compare results. ;-)

Hey wait a minute, I resemble that remark!

Yeh, well, good luck with that! I usually tell 'em that I operate my motorcycle at about 1/4 the total cost per mile of their mini-van, and have a lot more fun while I'm at it... but it falls on deaf ears. On the camera/lens end, I have little defense, since I seem to be stuck in the "gearfaggotry" stage (see here).
