I've noticed more and more that when I click on a user's camera, and it takes me to the page where it shows the highest-rated shots taken with that camera, that inevitably the top of the page says "No Image Available." I know the SC can add cameras to the list for members to choose, but it seems the picture of the camera never gets added. Is there a drive to fix that? C'mon, everyone, if your camera doesn't have a picture in the Cameras section of the site, take a picture of your camera (using some other camera, I guess), and send it to the SC to be included! What do you think?

Or at least find one on the web.

Exactly. goinskiing, yours is exactly the type of case I'm talking about. You have some fantastic shots, I'd like to know more about your camera. 70+ users have it on this site, and of course, the first thing to know is what it looks like. But, I can't find that here. Image not available.

Those photos are easy to find at //dpreview.com along with specs and reviews.

For a photography website, I think that this flippant remark encouraging copyright theft should probably not have been made.

Yeah you are probably right. However, in a thread complaining that pictures are missing, and then someone saying where they can be found, I took it to suggest we "borrow" the photos.

Which - as I pointed out - is not a good plan.

Neither of the two cameras I own have pictures. Seems a bit crazy to me, surely it can't be much effort?

Provide links (preferably to the manufacturer's web site where they have high-quality, professional images, such as Canon makes available here) and we'll see what we can do.

Previously, adding camera images used to be something only the admins (Drew and Langdon) could do. Within the last couple weeks, an interface to allow the SC members to upload images has been provided.

Obviously we'd like to provide consistency in the images, so they should be, at a minimum, well taken, properly exposed, and on a plain white background.

wtf are you talking about. Since when is it against copyright law to go look at pictures on another site.

I meant that since there is a vast database of camera info available at a site frequently referred-to here, that it would be an immense duplication of effort and waste of time for the site admins to try and amass, catalog, and link their own set of images, just to save users a couple of clicks to a site I'd guess 90% of us have bookmarked.

In case you haven't heard, the admins are already working on several major site upgrades, and I think that, while having linked photos of cameras on every DPC page would be nice, the priority should be quite low.

I put the link there so you could easily click and go there. One more click on the manufacturer of the camera you want to check out should bring up a page with a picture of the camera if it's less than 2-3 years old; otherwise you might have to click on another link at the bottom of the page.

I never said anything about downloading or stealing any images. :)

If you click the "Find lowest prices" link right beside the missing camera image it takes you to price grabber and a photo so actually there is a link with each and every camera.
