This picture did much worse than I expected in the "Waiting" challenge. Can you tell me if it is a bad picture or did I can get hit with DNMC?

I gave it a six and think it's well done. But I did take a longer look at it because it didn't jump out at me for fitting the challenge. It does, but not in some of the other obvious ways that had been presented. Based on the seven 1s, I'd wager some folks weren't immediately struck by it as "waiting" and knocked it immediately.

I will never understand giving a photo a 1, but that's a whole 'nother topic. Obviously plenty of folks don't feel the same.

It just does not convey waiting for me at all. Technically its a decent shot. Every person sees things differently.

I don't think it's such a bad photo at all. I gave it a 7. It gave me right away the feel of ancient time and waiting to be filled with something. The bw conversion was great and also the dof and lightng. They weren't the most creative or appealing subjects but there was nothing wrong with the photo IMO. Concentrate on the positive votes and the people who really liked it, works for me all the time ;)

I didn't vote on this challenge. But if I had, one of the criteria I would use was -- could I possibly guess what the challenge topic was without looking at the title? Unfortunately, I don't usually think of inanimate objects "waiting". Also, whatever is in the lower right hand corner and also the chair with the jacket (shirt?) over the back, I find distracting. I don't think they add to the feeling of waiting, I think they just pull the eye away from the more interesting aspects of the picture.

It's not a bad shot; I probably would have given it a 5, but I think there were too many issues with it.

sorry!

Aside from the issue of whether or not these objects can "wait", I think the background absolutely murdered you. That shirt-on-the-chair shape is a terrible eyetrap, I couldn't keep my focus from drifting back there, I kept trying to figure out what it was.

Thanks for all the input.

This was in a museum setting, so I had no control over the shirt over the chair.
