Hi everyone!

Just got my new digital Rebel. I know I need to read the manual but jeez! I wanna be taking pictures, not reading. I'll get to it...

Anyway, quick question... do any of you Rebel owners notice a slight noise when you tilt the camera? Almost like something is loose and rattling around inside.

Don't know for sure, but could be the orientation sensor.

i'm pretty sure it's just the little metal bracket thingy inside the flash pop-up mechanism. it's common to all rebel's in either case.

There are no moving parts in standby mode, check the flash maybe is loose...

yeah I noticed that with mine a while back I put it down to the mirror (or pentaprism whatever its called) swinging back and forth. Any how thats what I hope it is and I hope its normal

Yes, it's the little arms that hold the flash on when it is popped up. It is normal and nothing to worry about.

Thanks everyone!

The noise is the image rotation sensor. It says "in the manual" that you should hear a slight noise and that's normal.

Read more. Shoot later.

It's the flash. Try opening the flash, or holding it firmly down. I was very nervous when i heard that noise in my camera.

Close the flash.
Turn the camera.
Still make the noise?

No - it's the flash.
Yes - it's what me and Spaz said.

In either case, it isn’t a problem with the camera. I know that the rattling on my camera is because of the flash arms because I taped them in place and now hear no more rattling with the flash up or down.

In addition to reading the manual, go through these tutorials. I've been slowly plugging through them for the last few days, and I'm learning a lot:

photoworkshop.com Rebel Tutorials

Sorry, I don't know what the rattle is. I've never heard it. Now I have to go home and tipmine over.

Ha Ha Ha! Have I started a trend? Something akin to 'cow tipping'?

Anyway, the store I bought the cam from called to see how I was doing (wasn't that nice?) and I asked them about the noise. They said it was the rotation sensor so all's well.

Thanks again everyone!

actually, you have to open the flash, gently place your fingers on the 2 metal pieces you see and sqeeze so they won't move ... then turn the camera.

I was so distraught when I first got my Rebel, I thought it was broken. But I can *definitely* say that this sound, in my camera at least, is made by the little support arms inside the flash. It makes the sound only when the flash is closed as well...when open, those little arms are extended and don't move around.

Not saying it couldn't be the orientation sensor...but the loud rattle sound is the flash for me.
