That is taking semantics to the extreme!! If that were the case, portrait photographers would have to have subcategories of Child and Children. Crazy.

i agree- i think people tend to really over-argue these things to justify low ball votes -
but that's just my 2cents worth... now for the whole buck worth ;) >>>

for those who like to yapper about semantics so much that it makes other peoples heads spin and they cant stand it --> lets start breaking down all the categories ie flowers and plants - heck anything made of an element and cells are children of the earth- according to the Webster dictionary so basically everything fits the catagory because nothing was created from off the planet earth materials to the best of my knowledge ie- its all children of this world wowwwww no DNMC's! WHOOP! after all -- semantics again... the word children was the only thing given for the speed challenge (by popular vote) it didn't say human offspring - so - yay everything meets the challenge- now will yall just get along?

thats semantics 4 ya ;) :-D

how about a pat on the back for everyone who rose up to the challenge and SUBMITTED SOMETHING! KUDOS for stepping up to the critique ;)

and now back to your regular posters and age old arguments

I'm getting ready to vote, did a once through. I guess I'm confused. The choices for the speed challenge was all Easter related. I'm not seeing to many children in a Easter setting?

Hmmm.....The Poll stated in Honor of Easter? The other choices were Easter related? The description states per-Popular Vote. Seems pretty clear. I guess I need to look up the word "Semantics"...Lol

I didnt see the poll say anything about easter LoL all I saw was "Children" by popular vote and speed challenge LoL

even now it just says

[Challenge Details: By popular vote.]
Rules: Advanced Editing
Submissions: 98
Voting Deadline: Apr. 11th 2010

thats all we got to go on for voting- is its a challenge subject of 'children' no specific holiday theme / etc otherwise given- they could be picking their noses upside down over a bowl of spaghetti ;) and fit the challenge as i see it :-D -- ;) :-D

Let's try something new here -(END OF SENTANCE - ie here we go we're tryin something diffrent)
- we're scheduling a speed challenge this weekend in honor of Easter. (YAY A SPEED CHALLENGE IN HONOR OF A HOLIDAY (NOT TO BE CONFUSED OF A SPEED CHALLENGE _FOR_ A HOLIDAY DEPICTING A HOLIDAY OR TO SPECIFICALLY INCLUDE THEME RELATED THINGS OF THE HOLIDAY!)

Help us pick the topic! (YOU PICK / CHILDREN < *NOTHING SPECIFYING EASTER OR HOLIDAY RELATED TOPIC) / EASTER BASKET< *SPECIFIC THEME OF HOLIDAY MENTIONED / JELLYBEANS (I CAN EAT THESE ALL YEAR ROUND IE: JELLYBELLYS! YUMMM NOT EASTER OR HOLIDAY SPECIFIC JUST A CANDY SPECIFIC TYPE) / MARSHMELLOW PEEPS II < (STILL NOT A SPECIFIC HOLIDAY THEME IE U CAN PUT A PEEP ON A BONFIRE AND ITS NOT HOLIDAY/EASTER RELATED)

semantics done-

children are children-- there is no specific really pushed on the speed challenge if it were the details should and would read---> "DEPICT THE EASTER HOLIDAY SPIRIT BY PHOTOGRAPHING CHILDREN AS A THEME BY CHILDREN WE SPECIFY THE OFFSPRING OF HUMANS NOT CHILDREN OF THE EARTH AS WEBSTER DICTIONARY ALSO MAY IMPLY" :-D

ok really semantics done now ;)

the only easter related theme i saw in the poll was 'easter baskets' which got the second lowest votes :-D next to MARSHMELLOW PEEPS - just because you psychologically associate jellybeans and marshemllow peeps and children with easter does not mean they are specifically easter related ;) i had my child close to x-mas infact ;) and I was born in june :-D but in honor of easter they could throw a speed challenge to take a pic of purple polkadotted pigeons.. IE: if I say "in honor of spring I'm going to take a photo- it could be of the night, it could be of water dripping, but in honor of spring i'm going to take a pic... unspecified subject... now... when the subject is specified like for example flowers - i could take a photo of a funeral flower or a dead flower in a vase - its in 'honor' of spring it is not specifically to depict the feeling of spring- in honor could mean any number of things- to any number of people - ie: perhaps my way of showing merited respect of spring is to depict the death of winter by taking a photo of a dead flower-? :-)
there are many ways to think things ;) and to see things...

I wasn't confused by the challenge ;) i see many peoples thoughts on what it should/shouldn't be - and its interesting because basically it all comes down to ... 'semantics'

Thank You for the clarification. I'm no longer confused. We honor something yet it doesn't have to have anything to do with it. Since it's such a Great Holiday we are going to have a speed challenge. "Children"....OK, it works too.

yep now u get it--

children- new life/ associated with easter in a lose way to honor the holiday kind of like candy is associated with the easter holiday in a loose way- so is the earth/ so is in general existence rebirth etc--

you don't have to go take a pic of some kid crawling off of a cross or waking up in a tomb to honor easter ;)

ie: to honor the memory of a person who passed away on this forum; many many people photographed something 'representative of a cowboy' that in honor of challenge specified in the details " The Cowboy
A Member Challenge using the Advanced Editing rules. Challenge Description/
Description Photograph something representative of a cowboy this week. In honor of Sean Michael Matos"
yes some people interpreted something represenative of a cowboy as a sheep, a hat, a piece of rope; an actual cowboy or just a horse- some people just took pics of an animal grazing- etc... it was to honor someones memory- it wasn't of that specific person; it wasn't to mimic their exact portfolio work; but to show appreciation and love in their own way artistically- in honor of that person-- keeppp reading dont get lost here> etc.. etc...etc... again we beat a dead horse- tho you say you get it- u really dont' and that's fine too - that topic specified the photo should have something Representative of a cowboy in honor of the memory of--- // the challenge speed challenge said --and wow- here comes that stick for the semantics again (really hope I didnt loose u yet)- and i'm goin to paraphrase this for u - basically 'hey lets do something different since we never let you people pick speed challenges and ..wow its easter so...since its easter...- and we want to do a speed challenge that falls on this easter- in honor of that holiday you pick- here is a poll -(yep thats how I read it; because its easter in honor of easter we get a poll to pick what the challenge will be for easter- not to honor easter; but in honor of easter we get to pick what the speed challenge is from a poll -yay! *how many more times can i say easter? easter easter easter easter whoot- its about CHILDREN not easter wow-- ok...no easter mentioned in speed-challenge description... or title...) - now decide.... thanks... ok speed challenge is ... WHOOT -- CHILDREN! WOW OK-- now go take pics of children within 48hours as per popular demand... goodjob folks have fun-- dont'over think it..your braincells might die! and we want you to get those pix submitted within 48hrs its a -speed- challenge not a take your time challenge! if we wanted to be more specific we'd probably put more descriptions but since we didnt...just take pics of children...its all good- now go vote and have fun enjoy looking at all the great pics of children...or...hey...if u dont like children dont have fun! its all good? but again- if the description stated something like "only children smiling' or "SHOW EGGS IN THE PICS to honor the easter holiday spirit" or... "CHILDREN CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAY" or... hmmm lets just say more specific ? :-D i could totally see there being a lack of horse-dead beating ;)

well you'll see if u look further down miriam-webster dictionary definition 4 u since u said u needed to look it up ;) that was copy and pasted-- hopefully it clarifies things 4 ya ;)

just remember... a speed challenge of lights could be of light from the sky- light from a bulb used in a livingroom- light from a flashlight light from your flash in a mirror whoot! - ....it could be...yes.... anything- EVEN if the challenge happens to fall on ohhh lets just say x-mas for example...it does not mean it has to be x-mas lights specifically unless it is defined in description as such ;)

sweet dreams :-D
