...tonemap one single exposure in HDR processing software?

I think that is legal, since it is from one single exposure and the adjustments are applied across the entire image.

Hi Duarte!

Usually if you use it with one exposure is ok, just make sure the software does not create several layers, as this is not legal.
I use Photomatix plugin for CS4, and it uses just one 12 bit image, so all the changes are done to the same image, not selectively.

I'd be careful. It depends on the software.

Photoshops's Shadows/Highlights adjustments are legal if applied on that same single layer and you can get a similar effect and not worry.
