anyone know what they grow here, happened on this field during a "drive-a-bout" and cant for the life of me figure what grows here. There were several fields of it, owned by the "Gee Whiz Produce Co". For reference, the triangles are about 8-10 feet at the apex

my guess would be grapes, but I'm a horrible guesser.

I've never seen grape vines with that setup (doesn't mean they don't exist).

Googling Gee Whiz Produce brought of links about apples so maybe the start of an apple orchard? Though I've never seen apple orchards that look like that either. LOL

I believe that it is a Hops field.

Pot farm. The triangles are to scare and confuse the hippies.. :)

could be something that grows on vines, like string beans; tomatoes...

It's a triangle field, and it is about ready for harvest, or it could be a field of power line tower seedlings.
No idea what it is. Love the Co name though.

Penny and I both think it's ready for pole beans...

These are pole beans growing, from a commercial catalogue:

I'll second that one.

This is what they look like in Germany - not exactly the same, but I could easily imagine it for the same purpose:

Well if it's got a stalk pruned back that's going to grow again, then it's a perennial and that leaves out both pole beans and hops, but puts grapes back in the equation. Possibly table grapes? I donno...

Hops are perennial.
I vote hops too.

I wanted to say some sort of small hops too, but they'd be a pain in the ass to harvest with that setup. Where I'm from they'd drive through the field in a big "hop truck", and dudes standing on top would chop down the whole line with machetes when school started each year (Septemberish).

smardaz says the owner of the field is "Gee Whiz Produce Co". They seem to deal in fruit. It might even be apples. This type of growing is apparently more ergonomic for the pickers.

Gee Whiz Produce talks about growing their trees on a trellis system.

If you look at the picture here you will see the trilles just like the ones you saw

It is a version of the Tatura system for growing. It allows for easier picking of fruit via placement of ladders and controls the shape of the tree while growing. Used for apples, cherries, pears and some others.

Shows how much *I* know; Hops are perennials and mutant apple trees are forced into trellises for optimum growing conditions.

It's a brave new world, I'm telling ya!
