The site is quite usable on an iPhone but there are a couple of things that could be better. For starters, allow voting on an iPhone. Currently this is not allowed, which I don't understand. The photos display nicely on an iPhone. The only issues that I see are:

a) it's a small screen but you can always zoom in if you like to see more detail

and

b) the shadows tend to be a bit brighter so for some dark images there may be some artifacts/banding shown that wouldn't otherwise show up on an average desktop monitor. However, laptop displays can have similar issues and those are allowed to be used when voting. So I don't see why the iPhones and other smart phones in particular are banned. If it's a case of simply trying to filter out the older generation phones then just add a little browser detection code to sniff out the iPhone and other smart phone agents in particular and treat those as a normal computer. Allowing these phones to be used may increase voting especially when one is bored and trapped in some place with just their phone, like me the other day. :P

Second, The drop down menu system is a little difficult to use on an iPhone because rollovers don't work so you have to click on the top menu item to expand the drop down. The problem of course is those top menu headers are linked to specific pages so once clicked the page tries to load that page rather than display the drop down. If there wasn't a link associated with the top menu header there wouldn't be any problem navigating the menu on the iPhone. There is a current workaround, which is to click on one of the menu headers and then quickly stop the page from loading. If the page doesn't try to refresh then you should be able to see the drop down displayed with those menu items clickable. However, doing it this isn't very user friendly.

Anyway, just some thoughts.

I agree, especially with the menu issues. I often check my scores throughout the day while waiting for something else to happen (like formatting customers drives, etc).
Not sure I'd be a big user on the voting thing, but when waiting at the doctors surgery for example, I tend to read the forums.

I'd pay for a separate app that addressed both of the above (checking scores, reading forums) and made them more user friendly.

although I can access the site with my phone. It isn't very useful. About all I can look at are the ribbon winners. I am not able to check my scores or anything along those lines So I would agree making it more mobile friendly would be a huge plus.

I'll check my scores and read the forums on my Android phone. Since I have a physical keyboard on it, posting is easy enough as long as I don't need to get fancy with links and thumbnails. I can appreciate why voting isn't a good idea on a smartphone.

I agree, voting on mobile would not be very fair because of the details lost on the small screen. My phone has a keypad so I can post to the forums if I want. I actually have no problems posting to facebook with it, well at least I didn't until that most recent upgrade. I just would like for the DPC homepage to show up a little bit more like it does on the computer, main thing I want to do is check my scores while I am out and about. But no matter what i do it wont show up the way I want it to. Not sure, maybe it is just my phone. But other websites show up the way they look on the computer so I am not sure why DPC wont.

Rather than redesign the site, a DPC iPhone app would be the solution. Something that would let you do all the main stuff such as update your scores, check winners, post to forums, etc, but in an app format that works well on the iPhone.

I also think voting would be a bad idea due to the small size. Often the beauty of a photo is in small details that you might miss altogether on such a small screen.

A solution which assumes that the IPhone is the only thing anyone buys. If someone made a DPC IPhone app, then the Android users like myself would want a special app, then Blackberry, and whatever else. Opens up a real can of worms, I think. The site displays fine as it is on my phones browser. Though I do have to scroll around a lot, it is usable. If such a thing were really needed, a mobile-friendly version of the site might be easier to create, and get more usage than a device specific app.

agreed, i am a droid owner myself, many sites have mobile version of their site, like m.espn.com or something like that, if there were to be a mobile solution i think that would be best
