I've just discovered a fun applet caled WORDLE.
link
You can either put in a piece of text and it will generate random patterns with them varying the size of each word by it's frequency, or you can put your own text in and make a logo all of your own :- )
When it displays it you can then change font appearance , colour etc etc and keep randomizing - it really is more addictive than it sounds . . |

This is made by lifting the text from the 'Team Suck' front page
and the current page
Interesting to see the key words :- )

Sigh - this sounds like so much fun. But I can't get it to work.
I've ensured that Java is loaded and enabled on the latest version of Firefox and all that,
and still get the "Not Working" thiingee.
Anybody got any ideas for this (bleeping) Vista machine?

How very peculiar - I'm on Vista as well and it works on both IE7 and Firefox without any messing about at all . . . |

LOL - I've been a 'user' since 1980 and still don't know how to download a program.
Java is NOW up and running. Yes, Wordlo is incredible fun.
Thank you for this link. It is a spellbinding addiction. Yes.
My first successful one (from a friend's email. she told me my hill was in fog today. She was right):

Loved this entry from the FAQ:
Could you remove or change the name of the “Sexsmith” font? I don't want my students to see it.
Yes, with pleasure. First, please write to the musician Ron Sexsmith, after whom the font is named, and get him to change his name. You may also want to write to Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada, and see if you can get them to change their name before any of your students inadvertently consult a map. Christian rocker Paula Sexsmith ought to be in your sights as well; don't let her feel left out. Take a slapshot at goalie Tyson Sexsmith, while you're at it.
“Sexsmith” is a common surname and placename, especially in Canada. It's analogous to “Shoemaker”, “Fletcher”, or just plain “Smith”; it's a profession. A “seax smith” was someone who made seaxes.
The place-names Middlesex, Essex, Sussex, etc., all derive their names from the seax.
If the children of Boston and its suburbs can grow up in Middlesex county, perhaps giggling occasionally at the mention of the sheriff or courthouse thereof in local news broadcasts or 5th-grade geography lessons, then I believe that the children of the world can weather the mere sight of those letters, in that context. Good luck! |

So what do the other rule sets look like then ?
It's also worth giing these a gentle tweak to curve and colour in photoshop - it just gives them a bit more zing. |

I actually have to use this for a class next week, probably on my own paper.
Here's one of Teddy Roosevelt's famous "Man in the Arena" speech (the whole thing):
Full text here, the most famous part is in red. It's a very good speech. It may sound like it goes against the very purpose of this site with the whole "I hate critics" idea, but he's talking about unwanted critics where here, a lot of us are begging for critics.

Yes, I have already found a real use for this too. I edit a couple of newsletters each month and sometimes take a lot of time finding illustrations for articles. For my camera club, our field trip guy has planned a trip to a horse race.
By plugging in a few extra "camera, photography, horses" to the first paragraph of his text, it makes a pretty good intro...

I found this link //tagul.com/ in the news section and it sounds cool but my work computer won't play it...but it would the other.
quote from page:

Tagul
Many folks have asked for a Wordle that fits into a shape. Others have asked for “clickable” Wordles, which could be used for navigation. I’m happy to say that someone (who identifies himself only as “Alex”) has created a service that meets both of those needs. I’m not endorsing his site; I’m just letting folks know about it.
Tagul: //tagul.com/
It requires signing up with either a new Tagul account, or via some OpenID provider, so I can’t provide a demo here. As you might have guessed from the way Wordle works, I don’t like signing up for toys.

if you put in the URLs from blogs to do with the adult entertainment industry, you'll learn a whole bunch of new words!
