I agree that matting would be awesome and I would user it often. I would even use DPCPrints more because of it. Getting a complete piece of work (matte, frame etc.) that would be the be the big seller.

However, I would hope that care would be taken when printing and matting the photos. For example, if a photo had an intended border, someone would take the care to ensure that the border was even when printed and that the border was even when matted. If not the print would look very poor and require reprinting or rematting anyway.

I think it's a great idea though.

Thanks, guys!

This would be a big boost for me to buy my prints here for the same reason. I already have done some to sell locally, but if it came matted then I could offer a nicely packaged product myself, for both personal and professional use.

I am horrible at matting so this would be a definite boon. I would love to see a small range in colors (similar to current frame choosing) if possible. If not then the basic white/cream would be a great start.

I think the matting is a great idea.

However, as I am overseas it would depend very much on the shipping cost. If it was cost viable I would definitely order with matting, but if not then it would make more sense for me, and probably other non USA types, to buy the matting locally.

Overall though I think it is a great idea and should be considered very seriously.

Are you considering all the other issues with mats as well or do you just care about volume estimation?
06/04/2004 09:45:21 AM · #30
Right now, just volume estimation, as our lab (EZPrints) needs to determine if it's going to be worthwhile to add to their product line.

I would order the matting if it was reasonably priced. I won't order a frame without a matting. I order alot of 16x20's and would love to buy a frame with matting to go with it.

Haven't sold any prints yet - or bought any ftm... but I do think that matting is a good with or without a frame. Included should be the external dimension of the mat as well as the internal. For example it would be great to have mats that work for 8X12 images and allow them to be framed in a standard size frame.
06/04/2004 05:50:08 PM · #33
Do the mats have standard inner and outer dimensions, or are they going to be cut to some specification?
06/04/2004 06:53:25 PM · #34
Yes, yes, yes

I am wanting to sell some prints locally, but haven't done so yet cause I hate getting them matted and framed.

I would definitely buy mattes (as long as they were competively price) with the px, and possibly some framed, too.

Having just uploaded my first 2 prints I've had a chance to 'play' with the frames but decided not to 'recommend' any as none seemed to look right. As many have said before I think matting should be offered before frames.

I'm in the UK and feel postage of framed prints would be prohibitive and look forward to seeing how much matts might cost?

I really don't have the time to cut matts myself (or go on another steep learning curve) anyone got any UK sources they use?

I would definitely order prints with matting if reasonably priced.

I did not read all of this thread so forgive me if I repeat something someone else already suggested, but I support a matting option. I was surprised we were offering frames without it. I matte every print I buy. I would like the matting option to be available with or without a frame so that a person can save on shipping weight if they wanted but still have their print looking good!

I think matting would be a wonderful addition now with the frames. But please offer gallery style matts as well as traditional matts.

My question (and I breezed through the posts quickly so I hope it hasn't been asked/answered already...) is would matting be available with AND without frames? I think matting is in the realm of the artists presentation of his work, where the frame could be considered to be more of the buyers perogative...

My 2 cents on the subject.

I like the matting idea as well. Not only will the images look much better for the customer, I think you will see less people adding borders to their images trying to give the same sort of look.

Is matting still a possibility? If it is, add me as a yes vote. I think matting enhances (just about) all photos. And I love the feature that allows you to try a frame around your photo. Great visual aid. I hope that's available for matts, too. It would be perfect to be able to see the finished product at a click of the mouse.

I've only seen a couple of my prints that looked "okay" with no matting. If I had one request that I felt was the most important to me, this would be it.
08/30/2004 11:06:19 PM · #43
yes! most definitely!

i would likely order mattes with all the shots i would order - if 8x12" were an option - it's too much a pain to do it at home. i might frame some - but as of now the sizes available are wrong. i would recommend that prints be orderd matted. i would only offer black and white mattes, as a service on a number of levels.

mattes would have been voted 1st ( over the frame option ) if i were to have a choice.

EDIT: Drew - you need a new camera ;}

we need matting as an option!!!!!

I think framing sales would go up considerably with matting offered. I agree, I never frame anything without a mat.

I'm not a full member so my vote may not count. If I had a dcprints store I'd want the option to matte and frame large, acid free prints. I'm really into BIG (not sure what the matte size for a 16x20" print would be, but that would be swell!)
