Today after 3 months on order my 1DMKIV arrived. I charged the battery, set the functions as I would on my 1DMKIII and set off for an assigment......without testing the camera you say? Yes without taking more then 4 snapshots here at the house. Hockey game in a dark old hockey barn. Perfect place to test the ISO and the focus. I'm posting one outtake from what I'm submitting, nothing special about the shot. But here is the reason I am posting it.....10000 ISO shot 1/800 shutter speed, F2.8. OMG this sports photographer is in love.

Edited to add a couple others......

to which I say: It's not full frame! Wahhhhhhh! : D

I love the people that "troll" the 1D4 and say that it is a piece of crap, compared to the Nikon D3/D3S. Most of them have never held a 1D4 or camera of that caliber. I mean, neither have I but I retain a position of neutrality in the debate, given that I have never used a true "pro" body (whatever that means). I am rambling...I have had much too much to drink tonight :D

In conclusion (see how I brought that together...) Those shots are ridiculous (in a good way), and I wish I had a 1D4 to play with...

Are there any signs of the issues the 1D111 had with auto focus? I have my eye firmly on this camera but there seem to be none available here unless you pre ordered like you did.

I will be very interested to hear what you think of the video format as well.

I have to be honest, I had no qualms with my 1DMKIII. I had a great hit rate even shooting sports. But let me tell you what, the 1DMKIV is the best camera I have ever shot with. Just amazing how many dead on sharp shots I have tonight. This makes me want to send my 1DMKIII in to Canon and tell them something is wrong! Video? This does video? Really? Of course I'm joking, I'll likely not even play with that until at some point I get bored shooting stills.

BTW if you are serious about buying one, and are good about checking your e-mail. Register with instocknow.com and they will notify you when someone has it in stock. Had mine not already been paid for through Adorama I would have had one two weeks ago. :D

I had real issues with the auto focus on my 1d Mk111. It was in the very first batch of cameras to hit Australia so I had a bad one. To Canon's credit they fixed the problem but it was real frustrating until they did. I didn't pre order this time just in case there were the same issues. Looks like I will have to try and find a retailer that has one in stock. look forward to seeing some more examples of high ISO shots.

ROFL yeah, I've spent way too much over the past few years on gear. Just glad most of them looked the same and my wife never really knew just how many I had some times. LOL

Will look into this. I have never bought a camera from overseas, have always bought locally, but it may be time to give it a try. With our dollar being relatively strong at the moment there is a good saving by buying direct from the US.

I know they do some of the shops from the UK, they may do Aussie as well I can't remember if they were on the list or not. You can select what countries and shops you get notified of when they are in stock.

There is only one problem with using a 1D for any length of time, you will never again own anything less.
Damn it Matt you got me started, LOL, now I’m thinking about a second job..:)

I had the opportunity to shoot with it a few days ago. I can post some stuff later, but it'll just confirm what MattO has already said.

Granted, the d3s will perform better at high iso, but the IV is second-best. And the autofocus will bring it the rest of the way.

I shoot with rental 1d III's and d3's fairly often, and while Canon had some bad copies, I've never gotten one. The autofocus on the 1d III consistently out-performed that of the D3.

Yes, the D3 would be my camera of choice for almost every aspect of photography, but for pure sports the 1d IV seems to be the clear choice.
