I am pretty new to this site, (within the last few months at least) but I have noticed that there are a lot of people that vote real low with no explanation whatsover. The draw to this site was to learn what I was doing wrong to improve my pictures but all I get is low scores that say my pics suck with maybe one or two comments. Seems to me that this site is just a bunch of mean spirited voters as well.

I've gotten two comments, thats it. One comment was positive, and the other was the most moronic thing I have ever seen or heard. I have to admit I wasn't expecting a mid 4 on this one.

CoreyFitz! I sent you a pm regarding the comment you left on one of my pictures....about titling....did you get it? (I'm not good at titles and was wondering what you thought said picture should have been titled.

Was mine the moronic one?

Nuzzer, no funny enough yours wasn't the moronic one, yours was "kind" for lack of a better word.

comments are sometimes so silly...

anyway, the challenge description is

Every town has one, whether it's actually named "Main Street" or not. Head out to the main road in your town and try to capture the essence of it. The title of your entry should be the name of the road.

The description does NOT say it has to have an ACTUAL street in it does it? The essence could be the people, the buildings, the shops, the cars...etc.. that make that particular Main St. unique right.

I think it was pretty clear, take a picture of main street.

I'd like to thank the person who just gave me a "2"....I know even with all the voting conflicts, conversations, threads...and probably PM's etal......I know they voted with their heart...

I just went through and started voting. There are a lot of pics that don't include anything even close to Main Street. I started by explaining why I thought it was a DNMC, but there were to many so I scored those low and my comments turned into a simple DNMC

You should be more tolerant of other people's take on the challenge.

I feel that I was pretty tolerant, some were just clearly not pics of Main Street. A picture of a building has nothing to do with this challenge. I don't care that the building is on Main Street, I can take a picture of a house and say it is on Main street, is that any different? This wasn't a free study challenge, sorry if that upsets you.

a picture of a building may not be a street, however the description does NOT say take a picture of a street. It says capture the essence of Main St.

this is the problem with voting, so many people have their own take on what the description means and even if a photo is great quality they will vote down and DNMC just because they don't think it fits.

I have never voted a DNMC. I always vote on the technicals of the photo.

that is just me though.

Wow, that DNMC IMHO comment I got is just so helpful.

So its ok if someone always treats every challenge as a free study?

I agree with you. And in this case, the person giving out the DNMC is wrong. "Head out to the main road in your town and try to capture the essence of it." I don't see where it says it must have the street in the picture. Just capture the essence. There are a lot of narrow minded people around. It's the internet.

Every photo is someone's opinion of the of the theme. You're the one labeling their opinions. My opinion is that you're showing your narrow mindedness. Just My opinion.

I think it says try to capture the essence of it

You can vote how you want....lol but IMO you got it wrong...the essence does not mean asphalt...(I have all the asphalt you want in my photo..lol)...

maybe Langdon should have said: Head out to the main road in your town and try to capture the asphalt of it.

You are being too strict in your interpretation of the Challenge topic
But as I said you can vote the way you feel...it is the way DPC is set up.

Remember it is the essence of it... a person who is homebound.. their Main Street could be their distance from their kitchen to their easy chair...you never know.

You have commented on 20 images (24%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.9494.

It dawned on me that people might think that I was just voting low. There were a lot of good shots in this challenge
