If you wouldn't mind, could you outline your workflow and what tools you use?

I'm really curious about what you do to organize your page development, especially when you have multiple pages containing multiple images.

Also, what's the average size book you do? Both in terms of page size and page count.

Thanks!

I've used Blurb and been fairly happy with the results, as far as workflow I just use their software and change the template where necessary. The software is easy to use. I have used the large and small landscape and even had the cover printed which worked out really nice. As far as page count 40 pages will get a lot of prints in the book and the wedding album I made had enough photos the customer comment was you got all the shots in that I wanted and they were very happy. When I set up shots in the book I tried to be very careful and have the facing pages set up with similar shots and settings or opposites with bride side groom side shots. Filling 40 pages and getting the shots where you want them takes some time so be sure to give yourself some time to put it together and time to review it with the customer prior to ordering. Here is the link to the one I did, keep in mind this was only the second time I have shot a wedding and this was for family so please be kind....:) Wedding Book

I have used MyCanvas to create a wedding book.

I was a guest at my brother-in-laws wedding and used the opportunity to shoot some pictures. My wife was in the wedding so I had my 8 month old daughter with me as I was shooting, so it was difficult to concentrate. My wife shot some of the pictures in the book with her point and shoot.

I put it together and gave it to them as a gift. I had a photo-journalistic style in mind. It was basically a chronological order of events telling the story of the day. All the shots are basically from my point of view or my wifes. So it's mostly our side of the family.

Here's a link to preview the book. MyCanvas Sample Book

Hi Skip,

I use Photojunction and AsukaBook Maker (both free) to design books and albums.

The books are purchased from AsukaBook, KISS, Graphistudio, or a local place in Canada.

Workflow: Export all proofs I offered them from Lightroom (which I would have gone through already) and cull them again in Photojunction. I'll have an idea what size book I want, so I'll create that number of spreads and try to roughly place images on pages. Then, I'll go through again and arrange images. Finally, I will fine-tune each page. With each wedding, I am working to shoot for the album, meaning I already have a page spread in mind when I shoot the image.

Average album size is 10x10 or 11x14. For a wedding, I would aim for between 15 and 30 spreads (30-60 pages). For a portrait book, perhaps 10-15 spreads (20-30 pages).
