especially after looking at Colette's new webpages, but also by freshly enjoying the many designs created by this technique this morning - these remind me of colorful snowflakes. certainly no two are alike!

Then there are some that need the extra 1 or 2 or few rotations to really bring things out. |

I have a smugmug & a flickr account, where I think I will move these as soon as I have time. cpanaioti had a good idea. Instead of trying to get more room here, it's better to move. This is, after all, a photography website. Not art. eheheh. |

cgino gave me an idea with one of her comments.
Since I have the printable fabric I think some of these would be great for cushion covers.
Who knew DPC could promote home decor. |

And yes, Colette, printing these on fabric would be wonderful! Not only could you do cushions, but make those quilt squares that everyone is talking about :-) |

These take a lot longer now that so many possibilities come into play.

Hope nobody minds me jumping in, but I was intrigued to have a go doing this technique. Played a bit with a couple of test cases and then on this one I inverted the image and found I rather liked it. Cool process

Ok, for the proverbial DA.(Moi)...I'm trying but not sure I'm doing this right as I have Gimp. Once flattened, do I use the flattened image as the "new one" to copy or do I constantly go back to the original? GIMP doesn't seem to respond the way PS does and I so want to learn this! These are just kewl and beautiful! |

Images with very dark backgrounds and just a small amount of lighted detail seem to end up with geometric patterns which are much less cluttered. On this one I did a 45 degree overlay and then added another layer at a 22.5 degree rotation. This is what happened:
Original shot (2004) of my granddaughter with light from candles:
Here's the flip horizontal --> flip vertical --> rotate 45 --> rotate 22.5 result:
... and here's a 3x3 tiling of that:

LOL, only because I have 1,001 things to do and I was sitting making pretty abstracts. What great fun, thanks for starting this thread.
I can't help thinking that these would make great silk scarves, a la Hermes :)

I suck at moon shots, so I couldn't enter the moon challenge, but these are based on moon shots.
