Hello, I met a guy named Dave at Red Rocks Amphitheater one day while it was snowing like mad. I had called it a snow day at work and decided to look for something to photograph. I was snapping a "3" shot sequence that Dave picked up on as shooting HDR. He was correct and we chatted for a bit, I followed he and his wife into the seating area, still snowing quite hard. We took some shots and he told me about this site DP Challenge. I am a new photographer, just since last July 2009 really. I have entered one challenge so far. I hope to meet some new friends, learn a great deal, and above all...have a bunch of fun! Dennis

Greetings Dennis, welcome and enjoy! If you are a Bronco fan perhaps we can cry in each others beer since I am a Seahawks fan.....

The other day, I was shooting a late afternoon photo of the Seattle skyline (Space Needle et al) and found myself standing next to a fellow DPC'er. [I'll bet our photos are as different as night and day - even though we were shooting the same subject side-by-side) Although we nodded to each other, it could have been the nod of one photog to another (or a Nikon shooter paying respect to a Canon shooter, maybe), and I don't know if he recognized me, but I recognized him from previous GTG's.

This is a GREAT community. It amazes me how often we run into each other.

We seriously need DPC caps, or camera straps, or badges, or lens caps, or ... well, something.

Considering where he lives there should be plenty of "cold-filtered" beer available ... ;-)

Hi Dennis, welcome to DPC! I'm in Lakewood. :) It looks like you're doing well on your first challenge. This has been a great resource for me, and a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy your stay here as much as I've enjoyed mine!

lol
I think Seahawks fans have more to cry about though, especially after that trouncing from GB.

Welcome to the forum Dennis. I'm just a ways up north from you in Fort Collins. Nice to see another Coloradoan join the ranks.

Colorado is renowned for its wide variety of high quality beers. Of course, this "cold-filtered" brewery you reference isn't exactly known as the cream of the crop, more like the barrel dredgings ;0

I wasn't exactly recommending that beer, merely noting it was made in his home town ... :-)

Oh, and welcome Dennis -- glad you've jumped right in!

Well, we do have the most breweries per capita than any other state!

Welcome Dennis! I have a cousin who works at the local brewery in Golden. I grew up in Boulder and rode my bike there (Golden) a couple of times. I am in SoCal now and haven't been to Red Rocks since it was upgraded. Saw some great shows there though- Santana, Bruce Springsteen, the Clash, Elton John to name a couple. Saw U2 the night after the show they filmed there in the 1980s (but that was in Boulder not on the Rocks- we were the Rain Date facility). Must look nice in snow. There are quite a few excellent micro beer makers in Colorado including Fat Tire.

I like Steamworks.

I just wanted to brag about our beer. It's hard not to when you're so spoiled.
At least Coors actually acknowledges the fact that it's located there. Budweiser hardly ever mentions the fact that it has a brewery in Fort Collins, just the St. Louis facility. And they use a LOT of our small water supply...
Anyway, I'm a big fan of Odell brewery, personally.
BTW the Red Rocks improvements are very nice. Probably one of the best venues you could imagine during the summer.

If I was still there I probably would have gone to see Mark Knofler on the Rocks. Truely a special place to see a concert. I heard they paved the road all the way in- you used to have to park up the hill and walk a ways (often through mud).

Hi Dennis and welcome to DPC! If you have a thirst for knowledge and camaraderie, then you'll find plenty to fill your mug here. Prost! :-)

Thanks for the warm welcome! As for Broncos, ugghhh. AS for beer, well the local is good, but I like the micro brews myself. They have much more personality. Been to some very great concerts at Red Rocks myself, Widespread Panic, Yes, Big head Todd, I think it's the most magical place.

Not really a football fan, so can't comment on that too much. Used to be a fan, but lost interest over the years.

Cheers!

Broncos have never been the same since Elway retired- shows just how important he was to that team. I still cheer for them but I also root for the local boys- in my case the Chargers. They are looking pretty darn good right now.

Hey, ho, wait, I'm Dave. I found Dennis wondering around Red Rocks- my back yard. I now wonder why I would invite one more person to kick my butt around, but I did. Dennis does some great stuff, he will fit in around here all too well. I'm trying to accustom him to the ways of DPC voting, but it's not an easy thing to do. Basically stomp on your ego, spit on it, call it a whore and then love it for all you can. Works for me anyway.

As far as beer, the stuff they pull out of the creek (a superfund waste site) in Golden is vile (Coors) and their politics are worse. They do market well though. The best in Colorado beer is probably New Belgium in Fort Collins (Fat Tire etc.), But my favorite is Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons. Old Chub will wipe you out, and if you can get Ten Fidy look out, it's 10.5% alcohol.

Look out for Ten Fidy and Dennis!

Ten Fidy is pretty awesome. I was skeptical of trying an imperial stout in a can but was very happy I did. My friends and I have an ongoing joke about how the course of events changes drastically as soon as old chub is brought to the table, and it usually goes downhill.

Yes, Old Chub is an alternate reality. My nemesis for sure.
