Hello,
I am looking for a new point and shoot for my wife. She will be going to LeBron James' 25th birthday party and doesn't want to "lug" my DSLR around all night. I would like to get a good one that will take video and not have the shutter lag that her old p&s had (sony dsc-p10). I would like a good lense and built in flash.I would also like to stay under $500 or so. She doesn't want a bulky camera but one she can toss in her pocket. I don't know a lot about cameras and value your opinions. Thank you in advance for your input. |

Really nice image quality, does not shoot RAW though, only jpg.
Can't beat the Leica optics |

| Thank you for your input. should i get a lumix or should i also look at cannon and nikon? What has the best bang for the buck? |

I recommend looking at the cameras in your price range at www.dpreview.com
This is a nice feature of the site

pick a couple of cameras and compare them side by side.
they have great info on a lot of cameras.
I have the Lumix LX3, bar none the best P&S I've ever owned. It may be a bit advanced for the casual user and it's certainly in the upper price range. But, since I was so pleased with it, I looked for one of their lower end models for my wife.
I am sure you can get a good camera from both Nikon and Canon. I've owned both.
The key feature of the Lumix line is the Leica lenses. |

Will the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 take video? If it will i think i will go for that.

It does shoot video, although I;ve never tried it. |

I just got a Canon S90 and i Love it! Indoor shooting without flash works great at iso 800+f/2.0+IS!
The autofocus is of course not up to par with a dslr, but works quite well thanks to the great sensor.
Has raw+jpeg, is $400 @ B&H

| Canon G-10 or G-11 is in that price range and support all the features you have mentioned. I have the G-10 It has outstanding battery life, Many features and easy to use produces very good photo quality, it actually can hold its own against some of the entry level DSLR cameras on the market. |

| When we travel, I take both my dslr and my canon g10. My wife gets her hands on the G10 and I don't get to touch it again. She really likes it. As do I. So the G11 should be on your list to consider :-) |

I have the Leica d-lux 4 which is identical (except for exact looks) to the LX3. I have tried the video function and it works very well. Just like the Panasonic, the lens is f2 and lets it ample with light. It films in both low-res and HD. |
