I have to agree about Topaz, although when I looked at these, only the second one appears to have a generous application of Topaz. I was happy to see Jeb use a variety of processing techniques.

| I'm not too familiar with the exact term. Do the voters expect building that are totally abondoned, dark and falling apart or will it be sufficient with a somehat 'weathered' look of buildings still in full use. |

| Ugh, I'm in Detroit so there's a lot of urban decay to choose from ... but the weather isn't cooperating! We're having extremely high winds along with some rain that has turned to snow ... makes it difficult to get out and shoot!!! |

Trollman, I think everyone needs to bear in mind that this isn't an abandoned building challenge. Urban Decay does not necessarily have to show an abandoned building's interior/exterior. There can be signs of decay on buildings and in places that are still functioning. Take this photo of mine, for example: Security This building was still in use... It is not easy to find abandoned buildings and it is not always a good idea to go into them so don't feel you have to.

Some thoughts on urban decay...
What is the attraction of abandoned spaces? I think it is a reaction to this facade that consumerism and the media presents to us. Seething under the surface of gloss and glamour and behind the highly sanitized images we normally see is something mysterious. In these empty places there is not just an emptiness. There is not even simply the ruins of what once was productive and useful. There is something in it's own right. When industry fails and life ceases, the silent artists and vandals usurp the buildings. They have an unspoken right to these places.
In one sense the building has fallen to disuse. But in another it has become a gallery and a place to spend time for some. A place away from mainstream society; a place that has something different to offer; mystery, visual richness, and decay. The breakdown of the economy and our living conditions collects in these places and rots the walls and ceilings, in a poetic and beautiful way...

Here is Urban Decay in South Africa. I used to live in a part of Johannesburg called Hillbrow back in the 70's Things have changed a lot since then.
