New PC with Windows 7 already installed and it's taking forever for it to shutdown for a software install. Thought I ask if anybody knew of a quick fix while I wait.

Well, I'll jump in with the first "Get a Mac" comment, but of course I'm a PC guy. In fact, I have my Win7 disk now, just waiting for the courage to install it.

I get that sometimes but usually just leave the room and let it do its thing when that happens.

ETA: I'm still running the RC. I'll be getting the real version soon.

Yeah, sometimes Windows 7 like to be alone.

From what I've heard, think of 7 as Vista with most of the problems fixed. It seems like it takes forever for all the auto update software to do so. It is best to just leave it alone and let it finish - probably not best to interrupt it. It might get irritated.

er...more irritated than usual...

Indeed. Windows likes to let you know who's boss...

You and me both. I have had it sitting here for about a week now. I have 3 machines to install it on. Going through some major anxiety thinking about it.

Wait a few more weeks. You don't want Windows spoiling your Christmas, do you?

Well it seems to run pretty smoothly and I couldn't believe how quickely it connected to my network and the internet without having to configure anything. I suppose I can tolerate the slow shutdown. I usually leave the PC running all the time anyway.

Well I would if their prices drop. It doesn't help that I'm about ready to take a hammer to Apple's other product, the iPhone.

Well it seems to shutdown faster now. It's only been a few days but I have to say this windows version is a million times better than anything before it. It also helps that I have 8 gigs of ram now. Running Photoshop on 1 gig was just tragic.

Well, I have the disk in the tray of this laptop now. Going to take the dive. Just wanted to say. If you dont see me around here for awhile it is because I am crumped up in a corning biting my fingers and nervously chanting Gotta Kill Bill, Gotta Kill Bill. Hopefully it will be a smooth install and I can move on to the next two installs. Total I have 2 over Vista and 1 over XP. Not looking forward to the XP job because I definately have to back up that machine. Any how See ya all on the other side.

Got one machine up and running on 7 and it is installing on another right now. takes awhile but went pretty smooth. And so far I am really liking it. Major upgrade from Vista.

I've been running it for a month now, no issue. That used to be the case on my Vista pc though, shit would take like 3 days to log off.

Well I got this computer with windows 7 on it so I didn't have to install it but it works very well for me. Not having any issues with it shutting down slowly.

Just thought I would follow up on this. So far installed on two computers both upgraded over the top of Vista and have not had any issues with slow log off or shut down. Both machines booted up fast this morning etc... Tonight I am going to do the third machine which is currently running xp sp2 hopefully it will go just as smooth.

Anyone try the Monitor Calibration in Windows 7 yet? I was going to do it but didn't want to muck things up until I know for sure it works good.

I'm having the same problem here.

But i'm not having problems with shut down (and i have 1gig here). Though it's taking too long to re-start when the computer hibernates after some time whithout activity.

During the reboot process of a comp after installing new software, all kinds of crap is happening. It has to change the registry and update certain files. Sometimes this is a time consuming process. Just leave it alone...go make a sandwich or something. This is a perfectly normal time-delay..
