I am looking to rent a camera lens. I live in NYC and can pick up or can have it delivered through mail.

I am not a professional photographer, and my insurance only covers theft of the camera lens and not damage.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for where I might find a good place to rent a lens that will also provide insurance in case the lens is damaged.

Thanks!

Here are a bunch...

I've never rented online, but I have heard good things about www.lensrentals.com.

One of my favorites is www.lensprotogo.com. I'm also on the east coast and with the regular 2nd day shipping option I can get the lens the next day if I order early in the day. The price quote includes shipping both ways. Another good site is www.borrowlenses.com

p.s.
Yes, both of those sites offer insurance for a few extra dollars. But I'd be careful and read exactly how much of the repair costs it covers.

Adorama, at 42 W 18th street, has a large rental department. Very reputable store.

CSI Rentals, 133 W. 9th street, seems to be very large and organized though I've never heard of them.

Both these places you can walk in and do your business, seems like the way for you to go since you're lucky enough to live in NYC.

I have never rented a Lens, But I have rented other items and in most cases they are automatically insured or I should say it is included in the rental fee. I have rented some garden equipment once where I was offered to purchase insurance for a few extra dollars on the rental fee.

I've rented at Adorama TONS of times. Awesome. Can't recommend it enough. Calumet rents too, but Adorama is better. Super prices AND a fantastic weekend deal.

QUESTION --- I've looked into Adorama, but they don't offer insurance. What do you do about insurance when renting from there? I'd prefer to rent from Adorama... but the insurance thing concerns me a bit.

I've used these guys...excellent service, provide insurance, pretty flexible about return date if needed, and very fast service. Also sell used lenses.

No use to you at all, but if anyone in the UK looks at this thread then Lensesforhire are very good, I've used them a few times.
