Do you really think people can vote fair on their friends photos? Do you really think YOU vote fair when you know and like the photographer?

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

Depends on the person. Some do, and some don't.

I never cared who took the photo, just how good or bad it is.

Yes...yes...and yes

Oh gosh no. I vote entirely too high on everyone's photographs, whether I like them or not! I'm so bad that I've gone to viewing and commenting only. Until I can make myself use the lower end of the scale (as everyone says I must!) I shall refrain from voting. (Ouch... I hate when I bite my tongue like that...)

Probably more no's than yes's.

I always felt that recognized photographers by style, subject matter or models had a distinct artistic advantage. The anonymous image might not get as fair a shake or latitude for strange, odd slightly off, bolder attributes, where a qualified, known photographer might get by, due to their already, accepted skill level.

eta: I don't vote fairly when I know or recognize who took the picture. I assume if I do it there are plenty, plenty, plenty more folks out there doing the same whether they know it or will admit to it.

Most Yes, because the best photos rank in the first 5.

No to the first part, and I never know who the photographer is to the second

No!!! You're the only high vote I ever get! LOL! ;P

No, and no.

Do you really think you can vote fair when you know and dislike the photographer?

Also no.

And what about content? Personally allergic to cats, flowers, churches and flags. You better have a damn good photograph in that category to not get an instant 5 or lower.

I'd also add that, friend or not, recognizing a a photographers images gives he or she the advantage of insight to their work, style, goals, techniques etc. which can add balance to what you're seeing.

Yes.

Yes.

How ironic to worry about friend voting when most ribbon winners are so commercial and impersonal.

I don't trust myself to vote fairly in challenges I'm entered in and so I don't vote in those. As for your questions- no and no.

I have only done it once and definitely yes. And I actually do believe that almost all photographers that are serious enough to bother with a challenge site like this would vote fair.

I'm thinking of voting extremely low on the work of photographers I both like and recognize in order to stimulate them to do better.

And you will appreciate their work after they are dead, I guess.

I think I'm a typically high scorer for everyone -- but I decided a while back to not vote on a photo if I know whose it is unless it is so blatantly a no-brainer for deserving a high score that for it not to get a high score would be just troll-like. For those, it gives me great satisfaction to give them a 10 whether I know whose it is nor not.

But that's why the anonymity is stressed and enforced so much. I do agree with Steve that popularity will get votes every time if anonymity is not the rule.

I'm thinking of voting extremely low on the work of photographers who do this to me...

You're assuming I vote fairly on complete strangers photos :)

You just get me all excited.

I think I'm harder on work that I recognize. I can't help but compare the photo to their other shots, and many times they don't hold up as well as their top shots. "hmmm, this could be so much better..."

I think the vast majority does not know who took the pic. If I see a pic that I know is made by friend (as if I have any), I do not vote.
