You made me laugh so I had to give you a 7 for that alone!

That's great Nuzzer. But how did you know it was denbote's image when you gave him a 7?

I don't for sure but he's from a certain country and there is only one shot that uses that country.

I can't respond to the comments posted on my pic, but I would like to say that I believe (given the time frame to complete the work) that a picture of [DELETED] brings back memories of an all american childhood. We were at [DELETED] this weekend and it was so nice to see all the kids playing!

I'm sure the image does capture all things that are American to you. As someone who has never lived in the USA, a shot of [DELETED] doesn't give me any sense of the spirit of a country. I guess it's a cultural thing. A shot of a rugby player would probably not capture the spirit of NZ to you but for us Kiwi's we'd see the link right away.

I just went through the challenge and I gotta agree. America seems to be full of pain, suffering and all about war. Quite depressing

No, you voted on what YOU thought the spirit was. According to the comment you left on my photo, you think I am wrong, when I know darned well my photo shows spirit. You should keep your personal feelings out of this, or at least admit them.

Did I miss the memo? Are we not allowed to enter snapshots? Are we not allowed to enter whatever we want?

You are but then it's up to the voters to decide if it's what they expect to see or not.

I would assume voters would expect to see photos ranging from utter crap to masterpieces with everything in between. Not every entry in a challenge is going to be worth an 8, 9 or 10. There are bound to be "snapshots" and everyone's definition of a snapshot is different. In fact I've seen snapshots win ribbons many times.

And speaking of snapshots, what's the difference between a snapshot and a candid or photojournalism?

ahhh comment unbagheaded :D

I cannot wait to explain mine - the pic isn't great (hence the score) but I think it totally captures the spirit of the country.

There is very little difference, only the context. This challenge is not a candid or PJ challenge so most voters will be looking for the usual DPC-friendly style of shot. I don't think there's anything wrong with snapshots, most of my non-DPC shots (and a couple of my DPC ones) are just that. If you enter a snapshot here then generally you expect to have a proportion of the voters penalise you for it.

What is this little spreadsheet that you speak of?
11/18/2009 02:32:54 PM · #39
I don't keep a spreadsheet, I have no idea what you voted. I am commenting on your comment. And for what it's worth my photo is scoring right where I thoguht it would.
