Will there be provisions for ethical smiting of code violators? I'm in.

I fail to see a reason for what you are proposing.

Whoever is in charge of these things has the option of adding extra rules that spell out a DQ for not adhering to all or part of the guideline.

As we are spread over many countries & cultures you will have a terrible time reaching consensus on morals or ethics.

Yes, we are looking at taking over the Guantanamo Bay facility. Are you interested in the water boarding position or bar manager? ;-)

Are you threatened by a code of ethics? I'd encourage you to be active in the formulation of the concept.
I dont think a unanimous consensus can be achieved but a democratic majority is attainable.

I feel threatened by any group calling themselves the 'democratic majority', 'moral majority', or any other fundamentalists group.

Semantics. Playing the oppressed political refuge card so soon? No worries, you have your opinion and if there is nothing you wish to offer, that is your choice.

It's a damn shame that the other discussion is already closed. I had some things to say about it, especially reading all that happened last night and the hypocrizy outed. I don't understand the locking and dont agree.

Sorry. This server/forum/contest/challenge it not a democracy. It is a benevolent dictatorship. All hail Langdon.

I've seen too many challenge comments, "Does not convey the spirit of the theme." in challenges where the details were listed as N/A.

I'm not saying that a mission statement would be a bad idea, but it probably ought to be open and clear that it's an unauthorized, and unofficial statement put together by members who care, for any and all to refer to in the event that someone would like to know what might be a considerate and thoughtful way to participate on this site.

I understand the interest.....I just cranked in a 6.593 in a challenge entry, and got one comment that I believe to be a student comment (Sign up for this site, view and comment on the entries, and we'll discuss your observations in class.) as opposed to one from a user/member who's been around.

I really feel that people have become so tired of the constant harping about comments that they just aren't leaving them much any more.

That's sad....

Where would this mission statement be posted?

Is there blessing from D&L/SC?

Are we going to work on it in this thread?

Will there be pizza??????......8>)

Oh for goodness sake. Had a good sleep I see?

Another fine soapbox thread getting ramped up here. Have fun y'all.

No point in engaging in something productive. Easier to sling popcorn from the stands.

If it was productive, yes...

As for the popcorn, I would never waste it by slinging it in a thread such as this one. Too yummy. :-)

I only read the comments on the image when looking through the final outcome & then realized this has all been going on.. I'm sad for the photog because no matter the outcome, no one would wish that on anyone, let alone do it to themselves..

That is an excellent statement to emphasize restraint. Sometimes a response is required and necessary. How we respond is the question.

Would you be willing to offer some wisdom in the construction of a framework for the model?

nope, just going to follow the rule myself.. I'm only responsible for one person on this site AND their actions...

What do you feel is your responsibility for the interpretation of a challenge description as an example? I'd be interested in this perspective.

Ivo,

if you are serious about this endeavor, you might try engaging those who disagree with you in a less combative and condescending tone. Such an adversarial approach is not conducive to negotiation and consensus. Just something to consider.

I personally try to follow it down to the last letter.... Hence the fact that I did not participate in the 47 steps challenge.. I live at the end of a street that has nothing interesting 47 steps away..(I tried).. But, I don't fault people for not following the challenges to the same degree I do.. If they aren't breaking a rule the site has established, then it's fine with me.

Terry, there is no tone.....honestly. How could there be? You cant hear my voice or see my eyes.

There is only an intent to encourage discussion regarding positive change.

Why fixate on IVO, focus on the issue IMO. :-)

Please help move this forward? (Sincerity emoticon placed here)

mk has earned a doctorate in this discipline.
She's the best on-site smiter we will ever have.
