In looking at the scores, I wasn't feeling too bad about my 5.7727 if there were that many trolls about, but then  jimness had to go ruin it for everyone! :P

| It seems to me that simply putting th subject in the middle of the scene was not exactly the intent of the challenge. Rather, it was to compose the shot with a reason by putting the subject in the middle of the scene. I will try and have another cup of coffee and maybe something happy to eat before I vote, but I am not so sure right now.... |

with scores like this I am going to retire, well not retire but quit. I know that I am no pro but come on it can't be that bad!!!!

My only advice is don't give up. If you look at my profile you will see I have only low scoring photos. But even if some of my submissions lately been doing bad, I have no doubt that I am much better than when I started. Just keep submitting and stop worrying about your score quite so much.
the only thing I find frustrating is not low votes or low scores. But I find it frustrating when people vote you very low and then give no comments at all on how to improve. Just my .02 |

Having trouble recovering from all those ones and twos I got last night. According to Excel, I got at least five ones, it was like the worst trolling night I'd ever had! And form what I can see, only three or four people on this forum have scores above 5.0, everyone else got hit hard, or had a sucky photo AND got hit hard. I just sat last night and clicked the button, I got a seven, then a one, a few fives, and a two, then another seven, and a one. It was horrible...

Wasn't me, I promise. I've done the Spirit voting. Centered compo will be later on this evening.
I've been rewarded with a 4 myself in the meanwhile. And I imagine that this wasn't the only one.
What concerns your remark regarding low scores vs comments: I fully agree. A 1 - 2 - 3 (maybe even 4) deserves an explanation to able you to improve yourself.
I believe myself that sometimes people give low scores because the subject in the picture is not appealing for them. However, I believe that technique is the first thing to look at when "judging" an image. Even if a subject doesn't attract me, if the image shows a good mastering of technique this needs to be rewarded.

this is my first entry, and I'm not complaining about low numbers.
However, I was hoping for a constructive critic/comments . after 45 votes I have 0.
and looking around here I see its a popular trend, most of you have zero or one comment....
so, my question is... is that normal? do people with comments show up late for this party? |

Comments often arrive later on in the voting process. It takes a while. When i'm voting i'll go through the images and give an initial score, usually in the 4-7 mark. Then a bit later i'll run through them again, increasing the ones that i really like into the 8s and 9s and choose my favourite of the challenge and give it a 10. This is when i usually comment so it's always later in the week. I try to comment on my top five or so and any low scores i've given (although i've been a bid rubbish about this recently..must try harder!) Anyway...
