The whole shoot was done with an Alien bees B800 strobe, fitted with a 24x36 Softbox...

.
I did figure out a way to put a gel onto my softbox... but I didn't need it...

.
The evening (brighter) shots at first were done at 1/125 f/2.8

.
All the night ones were 1/30 f/2.8 I dragged the shutter a bit to let some more light in

(all done at iso 200)

.

All images were shot with my Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G lens...

Except the last one was shot with my Tokina 12-24mm at f/4 with a 6-second exposure... I just told the couple to stand VERY still, opened the shutter, triggered the flash, and let the picture finish....

Hey Eric,

Like most of the pics, though I think the ones that aren't quite so strong are those where bg behind couple is black. Seems to be a few more lines and stuff showing on the faces. Think the dusk ones work better, imho.

Eric On almost all the shots I see a guy with his hands in his pockets, trying to look cool. To me it just does not work in this type of photo shoot.
I like the lighting but it seems friendlier to her curvy face then his angular face. I have no answer but I will also add to notes to myself.
All in all, damn good under difficult lighting conditions.

Thanks! This is my second photoshoot (first at night) I'm getting better at coming up with poses... much better this time than last =)

you have a very good point though... i'll keep that in mind for the next shoot...

Actually, I think the ones with the colorful presunset sky. 1, 5, 13 are all great IMHO.

They are all very good though.

I have to say that the guy just looks awkward in all the pics. THe ones that were taken earlier in the evening definitely look better than the ones that were taken later. The best one is the one of them with the CN tower. THat one looks great! The only thing that bothers me is that maybe they are to close to the edge of the pic. Minor detail, everything else is good.

Thanks! yea, i Like the ones done earlier in the night, but I also like the red sunset sky... i shot both to give a nice range....

The one with the CN tower was shot at 12mm... the condo is like directly next to the CN tower... it was very tricky trying to get a good shot of the CN tower, let alone getting them into the frame...

Not bad for my second photoshoot... I still have a LOT to learn...

yea, and I'm still not very good at posing the subjects... I think i'll get better with time =)

.

any other suggestions would be VERY helpful =)

That is a problem with a lot of people. Everyone always asks me where should I put my hands. I try to change it up a bit because every person is different but I'll do some int he pocket, some behind them, some on a wall or near a face. But it's a problem we all face.

Thanks for all the comments Joseph!

When I got there I almost had a heart attack because I forgot the battery pack for my strobe...

Luckily there was an outlet in the fire escape, but I only had like 5 feet of cord to work with because most of teh cord was running down the stairs...

It was ok i guess, but all the shots I had planned for were not doable... I couldn't put the light anywhere where I had planned on putting it...

this really stressed me out so I couldn't even focus the whole shoot...

all in all, I think I made a decent recovery...

For that very reason I always have an extension cord in my light bag. I would rather have lots of feet to play with and carry an extra cord than not have the versatility. But good shots. For the next one I would also look to control your fall off a little more as well. One or two have some light in areas that aren't on the models/couple where darker might be better. But good job and keep shooting!

Thanks!

these are much better than my first shoot... so hopefully the next one will be even better =)
