Do you have any gels for them? If not you might want to use an SB flash and use your CTO gel.

Or...

You might want to try to find some if you're shooting at night.

I'm not aware of a specific adapter that fits on the AB that would allow both gels and the softbox. The gel holders attach to the AB via a cone that attaches where the softbox speedring attaches. So the idea to use your speedlight with it's gel may work a lot better. The Paul Buff site might be able to help with an adapter that I don't know about (their customer service is great)

BUT they won't work with a softbox... how could you use a gel with a softbox? where would it go?

aside from that... I could poke a hole in the gel and use an unmbrella to bounce light onto the car... but I really like the way light from a softbox comes out....

Take 2 shots. One of the city get it right and then put your car in place snap another. Of course you are not going to move your camera. Then use the power of PS to combine. If this isn't for DPC then no problem. It happens all the time.

Ah. I see the AB's use a great, big gel holder in front of the flash-head. I'm assuming that prevents you from attaching the softbox? Me, I just slap on my Lumiquest FX gels in front of my flash, and then attach my "softbox" to my flash unit.

I'll have to do some test shots before I head out there... I kinda gotta remove a chain to let myself into a club parking lot to get this shot... normally it's no problem, but once I start popping strobe flashes in there, it's only a matter of time before the cops show up... that's why I want to plan it out now because I gotta be quick... in and out before they can make it there =)

That's starting to become a problem for me lately... I can very rarely get anybody to help me...

everyone is too busy, and even when they do have time, they are not as patient as me... they don't understand why it takes 4 hours to take a picture of a beer bottle... (for examople)

I get by on my own sometimes, but other times it's very tricky... I had to get the clients I'm photographing tonight to bring one of their friends to hold my light stand because I couldn't get anybody to help me out...

just an uupdate for anyone following this thread... I did one of my two car photoshoots, I used one of the methods discussed... it was quite tricky, but it's done.... =)

you'll find the image in the upcoming free study... ;)

i'll discuss it more in depth after the FS voting ends...
