Add on lens' really loose quality. If you are looking to have a camera body that can have it's main lens replaced - then you are looking at cameras that can cost from $1500-$2500 (for the low end) and that's not with the lens. You would need to buy your lens seperate and lenses can cost from $150 to $1600 per lens.
It is true what silverbullet said. You can buy add on lens' or 'teleconverters' which are a lens that fits over your fixed lens. Many cameras take these (most sony, canon g1, canon g2, etc.) But if you are like me and you really love quality - you won't be too impressed with the teleconverters. I loose so much quality and it's very common with many dif. camera makes and models. For example I bought a 2x telephoto lens add on for my Sony S85. It does increase the zoom. But due to the spherical nature of the lens the corners of the shots are *very* blurry. Upper, lower, right and left edges are blurry as well. It defeats my purpose for using the lens. Then, unless you are in a very bright area, you can loose a lot of color.
I found that my 4 megapixel s85, started producing shots that looked like 2 megapixel with the telephoto adapter on. I complained to the place I bought it from (www.expresscameras.com) and they were **very** helpful in getting me a reimbursment. I doubt many other vendors would be as considerate.
