I go look at the profile, and check the level of participation.....whether it's a user or a member, how long they've been around, how many challenges they've entered, their own scores & scoring habits......

For the record, my response quoted above was in no way directed at you. A number of people had weighed in with their various approaches to this, and I was just giving mine. Hence the "speaking for myself"...

Been picking away at the voting for the last couple of days -- doing it bit by bit. The intriguing thing about this challenge is: sometimes tilt works, sometimes it doesn't! I find it interesting that there are so many tilted horizon shots, but some of them really look artistic, and some just look like they tilted the camera. I'm trying to figure out what the difference is. This one is certainly worth studying!

Still holding in what I consider to be the high mediocre range.

what is remarkable is that people giving low to very low scores, never state the reason why.
Got 2 and 3 votes, but if those people at least would say why than this would help me out a lot to improve myself.

I understand the behavior, but it is frustrating. I think the low vote without comments falls into 3 general categories:

-People who vote and don't participate in the forums, so are not even aware some of us would like this feedback.
-People who have received nasty or argumentative PM's from the photographer after leaving less than glowing feedback, and are no longer willing to do so.
-Those who feel a poor entry (in their opinion) is not worth any more of their time. Hit the 3 or 5 key and press on.

Valid reasons, for sure. Yet, as you say, frustrating if you want to learn.
I'm fairly new here so the voting and commenting behaviour of DP has still a lot of secrets to me

I will admit it is difficult for me to comment on my reasoning for a lower score. Heck, it's even hard for me to click a lower score with my mouse without feeling bad. That doesn't surprise me though since I am that way outside of the internet too.

To me, it's like telling someone they have an ugly kid, no one thinks their own child is ugly (and nor should they). But I see where if it is worded just right, it may be helpful to someone if they received the same type of comment more than once.

I'm going to work on this... :)

Coming in around the 5.3 range, but it's a success for a number of other reasons.
