Ok, I think this is the first time I've considered self dq'ing. I knew it wouldn't have mass appeal, but I'm not sure I want to see it get beaten up either. Too few votes to do anything at this point, but if it continues like this, it might be more fun just posting it in one of the appropriate side challenges.

I had over a dozen to choose from this month - lots more than usual. Re-edited the one I submitted a bunch of times, trying to get it just right. Very happy with it, but you lot apparently are not:

I heard Melethia suggesting the same with a shot in another challenge recently.
I thought you were just supposed to take it on the chin like everybody else that scores low.
If you have put the correct image in the challenge why should a low score be a reason to pull it out.
No judgement here or anything just wanting to understand.

I've never done it before, and I've had low scores before. It's not that the low score bothers me, it's just that this photo was a favorite of mine, so it's kind of like someone kicking my baby. Some people just don't like low scores on their profile. I don't care about that, that's why I went ahead and entered the Halloween challenge, even though I didn't really have anything good.
edited to add:
Also, I think a lot of people dream about cutting their losses, but few actually do it. I'll probably leave it in, anyway. I entered it knowing that it wouldn't have mass appeal and hoping that a few people would really enjoy it. But when it's 2:30 (now 1:30am) and you haven't been able to sleep, things always look worse...

It's still early. Yours is the sort of shot that will have strong appeal for a minority of voters. You can blame me if you like, since It was the one I preferred. I did warn you, however, that it did not have the mass appeal factor.
I expect it to go up a bit. |

| well, my first two votes averaged to 2.5, and now with 10 votes am up to 5.5. Can't place much faith in any early scoring, though, so don't do any self-dq'ing based on early scores for sure (and don't let the scores get you anyway) |

Love the high views to votes ratio and an early validation request. I had a more standard but "shinier" shot but went for a more curious entry in the hope I could pique people's interest and maybe stump someone into how the shot was done. So far, so good :-)
