I found a Nikon BR-2 macro reversing adapter on CraigsList for a good price. I took it home and slapped on my 35mm f/1.8 and looked for some good subjects.

The lighting isn't what I'd prefer, as all I have is an SB-400. I'd prefer to get something like the R1 lighting kit. But, given what I have... how'd I do? Any suggestions or recommendations from here?

Nice and chrisp. My advice is take advantage of the bounce option of the SB-400, Use a sheet of white paper or another reflective surface to bounce the light onto the subject. You would get a more even and defused light.
