Whether it be kids' face paints, theatrical or high fashion - offer a facial / headshot portrait which is augmented by painted / heavily made-up skin. |

I would think a challenge like this would result in scores based more on the quality of the face painting than the photography still presented.

isn't that the case with an awful lot of the themed challenges? It is the quality of the set-up that is often judged, not the photographic skills of the photographer. |

Here was my attempt at painting a face. It's much harder than it looks.

Sure it'll be a factor but I don't see that as any different to the quality of fall colours in New England in relation to the foliage challenge ... |
??? To capture a quality photo of fall foliage you need to find something that already exists, time it correctly to maximize lighting qualities, and determine a comp that will tell a story or interest the viewer.
Face painting is more of a contest on how well you can do makeup first - photography is a far distant second concern in competing for a challenge like face painting.
No comparison between fall foliage and face painting IMO. |

Perhaps it was a bad example to offer; just trying to point out that the quality of the 'objects' in front of our camera, whether environmental or contrived, will always impact on our final image. I take your point though - thanks. |
