Hey everyone, I just wanted to share some pictures I took while on a camping/hiking trip into the Eastern Sierras.

PHOTOS

I'm not sure why some of the BW photos have horribly pixelated sky. The original photo and even the smaller thumbnail picture look great on my computer. Oh well, hope you all will enjoy them and in the future visit this great place.

Looks like a wonderful place to visit and shoot. You've got some pretty neat pics although I usually prefer color for landscapes. I would disregard the "pixelated" you noted as a byproduct of resizing and hope it would not appear as noticably in the print size images. Leaning Pine has some spots I'd clone out along the top edge and the UL corner. There is some kind of a straight line thing just to the left of the center of Morning Calm that ought to be removed. Big Rock and Snowcap, and maybe some others, seem to have a tension between foreground and background as to which should dominate, which is the main thrust of the image. Two Headed Sleeper has a better balance, as does my favorite of the group Mountain Lake but I'd like to see it in color. Just my opinion, hope you find it helpful.

Thanks coolhar, your comments are extremely helpful. It's not often someone leaves suggestions on how to improve the next time. Usually people leave only one word comments showing immediate reaction. I chose to go black and white for some photos because the colors in them are not vivid enough to be left in color mode. The water, trees, and mountains came out almost black and white because of the harsh sunlight and shadows. And black and white looked much more pleasant, at least to me. The tension that you talk about is interesting. I liked Big Rock for a strange reason which I couldn't put my fingers on, and when you mentioned tension of the subjects, I suddenly realized why it was such an intriguing photo to me. It definitely isn't for everyone, but I'm sure I took it for a reason on that early early morning.

Thanks again.

The eastern sierras are a great place to photograph. I was there last fall and stopped in Bishop for a night. Galen Rowel and his wife were from Bishop you can still visit their website at //www.mountainlight.com They were both killed in a tragic plane accident a few years ago. Their gallery is still open in Bishop, some great work and well worth stopping in to see if anyone is ever in the area.

As far as Black and White for landscapes, Ansel Adams is just one photographer who took great landscape photographs all in Black and White. Far be it from me to discredit Black and White as an excellent medium for landscape photographs. Many of Ansel Adams' images can be viewed at //www.anseladams.com.

As far as the pixelated sky you mentioned, what method are you using to convert your images to B&W. There may be a more effective method that could reduce this.

thanks for sharing your work
