You may enjoy this Photo It does take a bit of time to load and when you use the zoom feature give it a little time to refocus. Details are above the photo.

Look way down in the lower left hand corner. There is someone or something waving at the camera!!!!!!!!

Very cool, but it's not a photo. It's a mosaic made from 1200 separate photos.

Amazing!!!
It always gives me a feeling how tiny we are in this universe. :)

That would look great here on DPC with our massive 640 pixel allowance :)

I think that 90% of people here would still agree it's a "photo"...

they are already working on it
Kepler mission

They have found that most stars have planets orbiting them. We have only been able to accurately pick up traces of the largest ones closest to the stars, which are very large and sometimes orbit their star in less than a day (very fast and hot). I think there have been something like 380 extrasolar system planets discovered in the last 10 years. I honestly don't think that there is any way that we are the only form of life in our universe, let alone our galaxy.

You got that backwards, I think: try "in our galaxy, let alone the universe" the universe being comprised of countless galaxies, of course.

(exit pedant-mode now)

Nonsense. You couldn't get 90% of the people here to agree that the sky is blue. Especially when many of them are trying to win ribbons by making their skies purple. :)

And even if you could get them all to agree, it wouldn't make them right.

I know this is a stitched pano shot, However if you were to print the file to paper it would indeed be a photograph. No sense getting technical about it.

No, it would be a print of a digital composite image (if you can find something to print it with).

Why not simply call it what it is, a gigapixel mosaic image? Calling it a photograph is misleading because it implies the use of a gigapixel camera, which is not true.

A photograph is made with a camera. A composite image is made with software.

BTW, there are other images out there that are much larger than this one. And if you do some research you will find that no one involved in making these large images attempts to pass them off as "photographs".

However, if you want to call it a photo, have at it. :)

This particular one is refered to as a Gigapan Stitch, I have made several of these large images myself. When it is presented as a whole it is looked at as a picture. And yes I pass them off as photographs. You can see one of mine in the image comment box below this photo ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/0-999/682/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_511080.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/0-999/682/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_511080.jpg', '/') + 1) . ' If everyone who clicks the link reads the info above the photo Gigapan Picture which I mentioned in first post, They will know exactly what it is. So I am not really misleading anyone.
