I've created a new ad for the magazine I shoot for but I can't make my mind up on which one to use. The difference is, one of them is a bit creepy (but I love it). The other is a safer bet but which do you think I should go with???

The difference is in the keyhole.

Must be extremely subtle. I have both versions open in separate tabs, flipping between them, and they look identical. Both show an eye in the keyhole. I think the eye in the keyhole is a little too creepy and voyeuristic for the intended market. Especially for the parents.

The eye, to me, implies a bit of voyeurism. If seniors are going to be doing wardrobe changes, they may be a bit hesitant with this!

The eye in the keyhole is a little creepy for who you are targeting, I must agree.

Disclaimer: the monitor I am currently using is not calibrated.

Looking at both side by side, the eye is not really visible and can barely be seen - as in it does not stand out immediately. Aside from that, I am not sure if I like the eye. Kind of makes it, to me, seem superfluous in a way. You already have the keyhole to indicate lock - nice - and there is no reason for anyone to be looking through it. If it was a lens I could see the impact of the eye. But for what you are advertising I just don't see it. Looks sort of like someone is 'peeping' in on the subject. Gives it a little of a creepy factor. NOTE: Above words are just my opinion.

Nice work with both. My preference would be lose the eye.

I only see the eye in the second image, and yes it would seem creepy to young ladies.

I like it much better without. And I swear, every time I see ads here for "senior sessions" I see gray haired little old ladies and gents getting their pictures taken. :-)

HAHAHAHA yeah it is creepy but I really like it, maybe I could use it for something else.

Thanks guys I'll send them the one without the peeping tom hahahaha.

At first sight the ribbons coming from the keyholes appears as swords hovering over her back.

Do you think the ad over all is okay or should I change something?

Advertising Help

Used this extensively while I was doing some copy writing and ad composition.

There doesn't seem to be a real flow to it.

I would also think you would want to emphasize the "call to action" - the come register for a family photo sesh.

While I get the door theme, I dont think the "hinges" help...in fact, since they are arrows they direct your eye around to empty space. It also has more of the look of a book cover than a door, with the way your studio name spans the top like that.

Plus I think you broke the font rule for this kind of stuff...from the classes I've had: no more than 3 fonts...I see 5 (6 if you count the seniors scroll)

Also, you have to kind of search the add for your contact info...I would display it a little more prominently.

Color wise - not bad, the red is an eye catcher for sure and would stop me if I was flipping through a mag.

While I think hte image is great, I dont know how I feel about it as an ad element. I don't know about that though,

Sorry for the long winded critique, Ive just been in too many classes as of late where this is what we spend the first half doing - critiquing ads and offering our opinions.

The text "...win a free family photo session" looks rather small to me, but then I no longer have a teenagers' eyes.

I like the new one the most, the larger yellow font helps.

Yeah boss, I like that much better.

Now on your website, you should have the deal about registering to win a free port session (and of course.....everyone wins it!)
