they are truly amazing photos, and i don't want to be a stick in the mud, but i can't imagine the bats were too thrilled at having that flash go off.

I like how they even took the time to tag the guy "Photographer". Too funny. Good thing they did. I had him pegged as "Crazy bearded man from neighbourhood".

Now that DPC has gotten tired of water drop images, perhaps IreneM can start blowing us away with bats-or-birds-drinking-water-in-mid-flight entries.

I have only seen shot similar to this in Nat Geo. The photographer who took them was Mark Moffett I believe. He however never got anything close to this much detail.

The really amazing thing is you can never see that much detail in real life - they're too fast and they only fly in the dark. They're oddly beautiful creatures, aren't they? I hope he continues to shoot them, though after a bit, I think the bats will tire of the flash! :-)
