Last night when I was driving around looking for something to jump out at me so I could photograph it, a truck pulled up next to me with this bad ass logo on the side. It got me thinking "I need a new logo".

Just like the rest of you, I don't want to pay for it so either I could come up with something cheesy or I could post something here and see what some of you can come up with.

So if you have some free time, looking to start designing logos, have a logo designing program, or just want to help a fellow DPC'er out then let's see what you can come up with.

A "Dirt Diver" logo? Or something else?

Ok i've only had one coffee so far but here's my .02 cents...

Shannon scalvert is a graphic designer, he may be your best bet for a professional opinion.

FWIW I'm not a GD, but way back when in was taking Advertising in college we took GD courses. First of all do you really NEED a new logo, or just got caught up in the je ne sais quoi of the logo on the truck and want to replicate it? What message does your current logo transmit and are you going to stay with that message/theme? Are you going to change the font and colours radically, or want to?

Generally for a logo overhaul you don't want to make too radical a change...unless a radical change IS what you want...but even so you don't want past customers unable to recognize it.

The logo I am looking for should be something that as soon as you see it you know exactly what it is. I know my business is not as popular as some examples I've listed here but I'm looking for something that pops just like.

I just can't get any good ideas out of my head.

Something else to keep in mind...old and new verisons of your logo will be making the rounds, so again I'd advise against too radical a change or people may simply not realize it's the same business!

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm also looking for a new logo. Well, not really a new one since I don't have one at all now. I've taken some graphic design classes, but I haven't had much luck coming up with an idea. I want something clean and simple, without using a camera/lens/flash/etc (too obvious for my taste).

How do you all usually come up with your ideas? Did you create your own logo or did you have it professionally done? Are there any outstanding examples of photographic logos (your own or from others)?

I'm surprised that the graphic designers are not jumping on this... creating a "Badass" logo for free, I mean its not like that is how they pay their bills right?
How often does Joseph Salmi Photography do jobs for free? If frequently, then disregard, you deserve free art in return. If not then my recommendation would be to pay a little bit of money and support your fellow artists... just a thought...

on that note, I'm hungry! are there any Chefs on this Forum that want to cook my dinner... for free?

Actually I've done quite a bit for free just to get my name out there and acquire some business from others. In my eyes I've done quite a bit for a lot of people here on DPC as well so why shouldn't I use the power of a photographers forum to ask for a little in return? If this was a chef's forum then by all means ask around for some free food I'm not going to stop you or say that you should pay for it. Hey man look, we all know you can walk down the street and pay for a #2 at McDonald's but if live next door to a chef why not become friends with him?

BTW eric, How the hell are ya? Haven't heard from ya in a while.

I'm not a graphic designer, have no idea what you have in mind, but certainly don't mind helping brainstorm.

(And how do I get one of those free Chik-fil-A sandwiches?)

I'm looking for something a bit more than just a graphic with my name on it. The idea in my head is that I want to some how use the letters JSP to create a custom shape and then wrap it with the words, Joseph Salmi Photography. In the future I will actually remove the words and just use the shape from the letters JSP.

Thanks to all
