Can anyone tell me a good-but reasonable priced - Marco lens for a Nikon D40x. We don't need automatic focus.

I am not sure if this lens will work for your D40 but I got it used from someone here in FL for about $135...he has a good reputation for selling used equipment and I would return to him again when I am looking for a lens...but this lens is the sweetest thing around that I have seen...and I think I am the only one on the site with it that I know of...I absolutely love it...it is total manual. but it takes some of the sharpest pictures that I have had...Vivitar MF Macro 55mm 1:2:8 f/2.8 for Nikon Examples you can also look on my profile and see some more in my portfolio...

Does a Marco lens help in the game Marco / Polo? :)

I am sure the Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 60m f2.8 will fit the D40x... it works on IreneM's D50. This is by far my favourite lens to use. Click the link and you will see other shots taken on this site by that lens.

B&H Price - $459.95 USD New - well worth the price IMO.

The reverse dislexia engine in my brain malfunctioned, and I was immediately drawn to this thread to find out what a Marco lens was.

something else to consider is what kind of Macro do you want...with the lens that I just listed you can do 1:1 Ratio...with some of the other lens (which I do not have) you are not able to get that 1:1 ratio as I understand and that was one of my main goals when I purchased my lens...
