Gee. I spend all this time trying to get my OWN style down pat... and now I'm supposed to be like someone else?

Hmmm... Ok.

"Back to School" for me ... either way! LOL!

what's tough is creating your own style, mimicking someone else's is easy, esp when you have steps (at least is seems)

I am going to enjoy this challenge, I think that I will try for a dark moody HDR landscape, its a pity most of my friends are not that photogenic (dont tell them though).

Did a search on her name and came up with //www.mrx.no/heida.html and //heida.deviantart.com/

So what are the three things that make a photo a "Heida"?
Right now I am thinking
1)dark pallet
2)colour of the focus of the photo stands out
3)good composition

I think it's always a great exercise to analyze somebody's portfolio and pull out the three or four "defining" characteristics. I hope to get time to do this this week and enter this challenge!

reminds me of Joey Lawrence

Heida was before Joey... I'm sure joey picked up a few pointers from Heida and then ran them in to his own style

She seems like a dark photographer, I like it I'll join in with this challenge.

is vignetting allowed in advanced editing?

First I did some burning on the background then I clicked levels adjustment layer and clicked options there and clicked the top box (enchance monochromatic contrast)

then I used selective color adjustment layer which is btw my favorite adjustment layer :) I decided to put more blue color in the grey areas so in neutrals I took yellow to -7 and in blacks I put black to +2 to make the black blacker

and in reds for the skin tone I put magenta to -6 and black to -1

then I used brightness/contrast adjustment layer and put the brightness to -1 and contrast to +10

And then I did a little extra I used gradient map adjustment layer and put it to b/w and set its opacity at 41% and mode to soft light

then I did sharpen.

Of particular interest is the "options" box in the levels adjustment, something many of us may not be aware of... Learn something new every day :-)

Hmm, some of which are not available in Elements. There's no Options in levels. Also, is the selective color adjustment layer the same as hue/saturation? There's no black there, so I'm wondering if it's not the same thing...?

I wonder if Heida is allowed to enter?

I suppose if she does then she should win whatever 'cos whatever she does will be her style .... hee hee hee !!!

Actually I bet what would happen is that a bunch of trolls would vote her to < 5 oblivion for being un-heida.

Thanks for putting this in thread!

Well, I've officially entered my first challenge since May. Just happened to catch something that fit this challenge this week. Whee.

Dang I hate it when I have two shots from a shoot and absolutely love one aspect of each. D'OH! Don't know which way to go.

The answer, of course, is to reshoot. I'm pretty happy now! Woo hoo!

There is absolutely no frickin way I could replicate her pp'ing steps, so I just went out to shoot at what I thought was a suitable location, and had fun, and did as little pp as possible.

I'm in, I only hope my lame attempt isn't to insulting to the real artist. I like it, but it's probably over processed.

I was looking at Heida's photos and I am puzzled at the image below.

Check out the horizon. It's level. The reflection in the water is almost like the person is standing on a hill of some sort. Is this an optical illusion?

i think what you are seeing is the same scene from two points of view. there seems to be a level horizon and a sloping hill where the guy is standing. the reflection is only showing the hill from it's low pov and you are seeing the farther level horizon above which blends in darkness with the hill.

I love her style!

I'm in.....but I dunno if anyone will agree with my take.

But who cares?

I'm going to love voting this one!

I can't wait to see what y'all do with this!

I'm in as well and I feel the same as delin. This should be interesting to say the least.
