If you have a sec, please give me a little criticism on my abstract macro photo.

I'm not sure why it placed so low in the Abstract Macro III challenge.

I do agree with one comment made about it that it was a bit dark in color. I had a bit too much noise for my taste when I lightened it.

Thanks,
Brian

5.1 seems a harsh score, but a few things come to mind.

1st, water drops are done so often here, that water drops that don't live up to previous spectacular water drops seem to rate poorly.

2. There's something that goes against the grain with a water drop going sideways. Your brain knows that they should go up and down, so the rotation is a little off-putting.

3. The tight crop on the sides feels a little odd. It makes the right and left sides look squished. Either crop it tighter or leave some space.

4. The left side of the water drop is very blown, so it really draws the eye. Cropping it in a little more might have helped.

These are all nit-picky things. I liked it and gave it a 7, but the sideways rotation did bother me a bit.

There's an element nobody's touched on yet, that the image, basically, looks like stylized sh*t... Seriously. Color & shape both. I'm not surprised it got a lot of negative votes, given that... If it were all a nice, deep blue I bet it would have scored 5.5 easily, maybe even a bit higher...

I agree with Robt. the color is a serious issue as it did make me think it was water dripping in front of dog poo.
But hey who am I to judge, you out scored mine. I truly have no idea why mine scored in the 4's

Wow, poop! It really looks like crap?

If that is what it really looks like, that would explain things, but I still don't see it.

Perhaps I need to get my monitor calibrated or my eyes examined.

Thanks for the critiques. Out of curiosity does anyone else see feces?

Man, if your dog poops that color, he better make a trip to the vet!

I also gave you a 6. It is really outside the box. The water drop is most interesting. My mind sees a fist and arm so the sideways placement doesn't bother me. Unfortunately the rest of the photo is rather drab.

could it be that because it's obvious it was a water drop. it wasn't considered abstract enough ?

i wouldn't call it poo. but the color is a bit icky...

I thought it was blood and didn't think it was macro enough.
