May I also join in? I likely won't get more than one a week but, I'd like to try. :)

Thanks for the heads up Scott. I'm in but I can't promise I'll be posting something every week. I've been doing more landscape of late so I don't always get any wildlife shots. Winter will bring in some of the stuff I like to shoot so hopefully I can pick up the pace then.

I'd like to participate. Please put me on the list. Thanks.

If you happen to shoot anything worth posting, we'd love to see it! (Don't worry about something every week)

BTW You've got some beautiful landscapes :)

"No zoo shots or pets. All animals must be of their own free will"

Their own free will ? I reckon that most pets are pretty much there of their own free will, the vast majority of Dogs get fed, groomed, and looked after, in fact all the privileges of being in a pack without the fighting and biting.

Most Cats could wander off any time if they wanted to but choose to hang around and destroy their owners homes/ drapes / wildlife just for kicks - oh and if they feel like it purr a bit just to soften their owner up.

Fish - no idea frankly, I'm not sure they know where they are at the best of times . .

If I get a disclaimer from my Dog saying that he's not being held against his will and send it in will that be ok ?

:-)

Only if the disclaimer includes trips to the vet.

ETA: The vet issue will definitely keep my dog out of this side challenge.

Lol.. I don't really think a lot of pets have "their own free will" Otherwise why are dogs on leashes, why are many cats kept indoors for their entire lives? Fish... well I'm not sure how much they can think, they're probably pretty happy just to get fed.

We see plenty of pet and zoo shots on DPC. The spirit of this side challenge is to capture photos of wild animals in their habitat. :)

Until last year we never saw rabbits in our neighborhood. Now we have three that feed in our yard on a regular basis. This was taken in April of this year.

I took this on holiday in Borneo. Where else can you get up close to a wild boar and not have it attack you! :-)

A first one:

Heron, shot(with a camera, not a gun!) at Windsor Racecourse, UK.

I took this one last year and am hoping for a new shot at this year.
One of my biggest wildlife challenges is that the images are often lacking in contrast (both because when wildlife is active and because it tends to blend in so well)
Wonder if anyone has tricks to deal with this challenge?

edit: I was asked what I shot this at
5.6
1/250
iso 250

It was taken in churchill, manitoba, a very cold but worthwhile destination (just don't take the train)

Shot these kites fighting over territory - used the 70 - 200 with the 1.4 extender on it - 4.5 - 1/2500 and 100 iso - sure wished for a longer lens.
