If you had a chance, which photographer would you want to be?

(Ok, some of you might say "I am my only mentor"... but please, everyone has, or should have at least one person to admire most)

Rules: one photographer per person

Me? definitely Jill Greenberg. Her studio photography and enhancements are superb.

Now there's a loaded question.

If I had a chance, I'd be "me" 50 years ago. (don't ask)

If that wasn't possible, well, Imogen Cunningham would be number one.

I also love Imogen Cunningham - she took photos of my grand uncle back in the 40's.. an amazing opportunity. : )

Jimmy Chin, because not only does he take some sweet photos, but he also goes to even sweeter locales on incredible trips.

I will probably take some heat for this but if you put aside the controversial subject matter I would love to shoot black and white the way Jock Sturges does, also now that I have seen his work I would have to add Phillip Toledano.

Oh heck yeah. Talk about the opportunities he's had! And I'd probably pick someone different every day for a year, just to see through their eyes - a lot of them would be folks from this place.

I wonder very much, what kind of camera and lenses he has, and shot those photos with. Very tight DOF, clear... must have a nice machine to handle high ISOs... some dark images with very nice grays.

So, he is very talented, I still want to know the equipment he used for his father's website.

It can not be a Rebel XT 350D, or a Point Shoot.. or can it be? hmmm?

Jerry Uelsmann really takes photo manipulation to an insane level. And he does it all in the dark room. (no Photoshop!) Scott Mutter is another one who manipulated his images in crazy ways in the dark room. (One of my favorites: //www.photographymuseum.com/mutter/escalatorlg1204.jpg)

Yeah, I was quite impressed (and moved!) when I was introduced to his work in this thread:

I can't believe you actually dedicated a redirect for that.

If you liked that, have a look at his other sites:

I especially enjoyed this one:

I clicked on the first one on that page (yeah, probably not just because it was the first one). The photos are good, but I should have refrained from reading the text.
