My husband and I are still disagreeing over the street photography challenge. We went back and forth on which photo would do better, and we're still disagreeing.

This was my entry:

This was the almost entered:

Would the almost entered score better or worse than the actual entry? (Right now, I won't tell you whether I went with his suggestion or my own opinion when picking the entry... It just that it's after the challenge, and we both still think we're right--so now I'm curious!)

thanks!

I think your 'almost entered' shot is better technically so probably would have done better.

the "almost" entry is blurred and forgettable, the one you entered is unique and interesting, I say hands down you made the right choice

oh boy nice pun AP!

Definitely made the right choice IMO. Your entry has the element of connection for the viewer, the almost entered one doesn't. Add that to AP's statement.

I never get in the middle of these types of discussions between a husband and wife even when I think the one you entered is better.

Entered entry all the way! Both are nice photos. But there is so much more to appreciate and so much that can be interpreted or read into the entered image.

I do like the lighting better on the almost entered pic but I think the one you entered would score better because it is more interesting to look at. So when will you let us know who won?

The second one does nothing for me from SP point of view. The first is interesting.

IMO, you made the right choice. Entry pic has interest and action, and expression from the girls. Entry pic meets the challenge and tells a story even w/o the title. Almost choice has a kid on the street/no "story" and is boring to be honest.

The actual entry, hands down.

No contest; entry. The non-entry is borrrrringggg :)

both of them are equally average, it hard to go right with either of them. Second one more average than first one though (means first one slightly better).

husband won, then. I thought the almost entered was visually more interesting--I liked the lines and colors, but doesn't keep your interest at all. I liked the entered one a lot, but I thought that it was too cluttered--but this was the only option for catching this shot. didn't know he was going to do it, he only did it once. I loved the interactions, but I thought since it wasn't as visually appealing, people might not look deeper to see all there was to see.

I'm pleased with how it placed, I was just curious if the other one would have done better. Now I know! Thanks for the input, but I'm not sure that I thank you for proving my husband right... :P

i do not think other one would have done better, the reason it is not sharp focused. You will be crucified for it. Subject wise second was simple and clean. But not focused properly or should i say it was soft. A BIG no no on dpc.

Funny, he doesn't look that soft to me--but then again, I can't see aliasing either--my husband has to point it out to me, and even then I barely see it. Eyes aren't working that well.

btw, this was my favorite, by a longshot, but I didn't think it would go over well.

I think your choice was better.

The other is simply the back of someone's head. Lines and colors are nice, but nothing to hold interest.

This is the best by far. You should have entered it.
Your entry would have been ok except the girl in black was not looking at the subject.

The one you entered grabs my attention more. The shot has more going on as well as other "elements" that caught my attention. (Just being honest!) The scene of the young man trying to impress the girls fits more with my concept of what street photography is about.

I appreciate the feedback and the honesty--I am looking for honesty instead of platitudes.

A boy walking along with a skateboard, or a boy upside-down on a skateboard, showing some skin, and being ogled by several girls. Isn't this is a no brainer?

And if it helps your case, your entry got the MOST in-challenge views at 544. (I only know because my shot came in second on that statistic at 443. I was looking for some consolation!)

There was a skateboarder in the picture?!

Really?! Cool! I think it's because the site is predominantly males and there were three good-looking, young females in the shot :P

I'm actually surprised and please with the finish, so I'm fine with that. My husband just said, "see, I told you so!" So, of course, I had to test the theory :D
