Here is my book "Actuality".
I entered it in the Photo Book Now competition Blurb hosted. So If you could vote on it I would greatly appreciate it.

I did a book on premium lustre recently - as a proof for me so it's not public just yet:
'Spirit of the Street'
WIll check some of these entries too later.

Cheers

The book

(aside)I've posted this before, but I've done different books with different companies. If you watch carefully, you can get some good deals -- I got a MyPublisher one free last winter and I don't think I've ever paid full price for any of them -- I'm not terribly brand loyal on this item and will buy whichever one has the best deal.

All that said, if I had to choose between MP and blurb, I would choose blurb -- the end product is holding up much better.

wow, that's a great little book. I love the quotes at the end. :)

EXCELLENT book, Jon! That the photography is outstanding is no surprise since you shot it. Love the layouts - I'm assuming that is not blurb software. What did you use? Again - really excellent work with that - thanks for sharing it!

Great books everyone...

Jon, very cool. Great shots and layouts.

Cory...I am not sure if I commented on yours already--I think I did--but it's fantastic.

Karma...really like the way you did it overall, and took the time to do each kid too.

In all cases: it will be interesting to discuss how well these sell. There are some things "wrong" with the store, IMHO, for selling:

1) Customer's see the base prices. For my books, I've only added $5 to the base price, and so they are pretty economical and not going to make me a whole lot of money. But if I charge more, I start to feel a bit guilty over it since many who would buy these are my son's friends and their families. But I don't think $3 or so net profit for a 120 page book is asking a lot. They are a lot of work (and I'm saving them a lot over buying individual photos, even at cost.)

2) For selling, you need profit above $25 to get any money back--difficult when you don't add much to each book as I do. AND: I just noticed that should I ever hit that big $25 number, they're going to charge me $5 to cut a check. So my $25, after their $5 cut, and after taxes, is going to be something like $13. :( And since they cut the checks every month you meet the minimum, you will be charged a lot (percent wise), unless you are making hundreds a month. Their preview of books is very nice, but I'm beginning to think that I should be selling these (and other books I will make there) at my own website rather than theirs.

Love to hear others thoughts about selling books.

I would agree, Neil, that if you're in the business to sell them, sell them at your own website. You can buy in bulk and save money that way. I *STILL* have a $9 profit sitting there from several years ago. Never made enough to get a check! :-)

Thanks!
And I agree, selling your book through your own website looks way more professional than selling the book on the blurb website. Here is what I've done with mine, it just makes the book seem a lot more professional when it is coming from you rather than another company.
