Canon EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM

I would like to dodge the upper right hot spot in this photo, but I have never been good at it. Any suggestions?

Thats a nice picture the highlights wasnt to bad here is what I did, levels, curves, burn the highlights and the noise reduct, then sharpen

Did a quick CS4 edit dodging a "recovery" section from LR2, and then some quick curves. Not a great finished product, but it gives you some idea. FWIW, that area was a bit blown out, so if you shot in RAW... you'd have more to work with.

Well that is the picture that came up first for me, but here is one of the others maybe this one they was talking about

I just cant make my mind up what do I go with, its such a great picture so many styles and changes to make

That looks very nice, I will see if I can reproduce it in Elements.

Unfortunately, after investing in a Contax AX, I didn't invest in a digital SLR, I have a 7 year old Sony Mavica that records to CD, so no RAW.

I wasn't sure this type of problem is best fixed using the burn tool.. To me, if the sun wasn't blowing it out, it would look just like the shore area right off to the left of it.. So, I just used the clone tool.. Looks natural.. Mind you, this was a 60 second job and you could do much better taking your time.. I just thought I'd show you another way to "fix" this particular issue..

the clone job looks good.

I used a bit of clone and burn-in ( I thought Burn-in was adding more light when I was in the dark room).

I will play with clone a little more heavily.

IT is funny, I almost didnt take the shot. This is on the bridge at Multnomah falls, looking down into the final pool. I thought I did the shot last year and didn't like the results, but I decided to shoot it anyway. Wish I would have bracketted it.

this is pretty close to my final image.

I used clone a little more this time (ok, a lot more). I also reduced the green in the midtones in levels.

looks really good.. I'm sure you can go back through with the dodge tool or even the brush tool & paint some light back into that area so you get back some of the natural lighting that was on the original.. But, I think if you never saw the original you would never know you cloned and burned that area at all.. Nice job.
