Some may have received this email or seen a version of it before. When it showed up in my inbox today I decided to take the test. I consider myself observant so when I got the answer wrong it made me wonder how closely do I look at photographs when I vote.

Preschoolers all over the United States
were shown this picture and asked the same question.
90% of the preschoolers gave the correct answer.

So here is the photograph and question. What say you?

Which way is the bus below traveling?
To the left or to the right?

Can't make up your mind?
Look carefully at the picture again.

Still don't know?

If you have seen this before you can give your answer but don't tell others why. Lets see how many get it right or wrong.

Scott.

It's traveling left, and there's an obvious reason why :-)

Jejeje, depends on which country you're in, doesn't it?

i thought about it, and this is what makes this question fuzzy.

i am in japan so must be right. if i were in europe, it would be left.

Unless you are in the UK, then it would be right, US - left, Singapore, right, Norway, left . . . .

That's a crappy drawing of a bus, and obviously the ugly sucker is not traveling anywhere because it's sitting still!

Rightt.... i was thinking of a bus in the UK. ;)

Bah, it's traveling left in the UK too. Blimey bastards aren't smart enough for doors.

run away!

that is the worst drawn bus i've ever seen in my entire life. it's more like a spaceship dropping circles of death on us poor, unsuspecting earthlings. it's not moving left or right because it's hovering in place.

now, someone photoshop godzilla driving the silly thing and let's be done with it.

edited to add:

i drew it to match the quality of the bus drawing... actually, it was the best i could do with a touch pad and my severe lack of artistic ability.

:-D

right side of vehicle would be outside of vehicle. But in japan anything is possible.

Your right Robert, it does depend on the country. That's why I emphasized 'United States'.

Preschoolers all over the United States
were shown this picture and asked the same question.
90% of the preschoolers gave the correct answer.

My answer in when I viewed the question was "forward" (lol). Knowing that was not one of the two answers to choose from. Being honest I didn't think about look for the door as a way of determining the direction of travel. And that's what made me think - do I take the proper amount of time when viewing a photograph I vote on.

Something to think about.

hahaha.
I was about to post:

While it's an amusing puzzle, the number of photographs that rely on THIS kind problem solving observation are very, very, very few in any given challenge, if there would be any at all.

Observation doesn't have to be keen or deep in order to evoke a reaction, and really, that's all challenges are for, reactions.

I have not seen this before but I pick neither left nor right but it's gonna hurt....
07/09/2009 07:01:00 PM · #24
It's not a photograph.
Is that a bus? looks like a robot to me!
do we have to choose left or right?
07/09/2009 07:27:06 PM · #25
The problem isn't trying to determine what direction the bus is going, thats impossible. But simply realizing, there is no bus....
